Grilled Lemon Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2010
I marinaded the chicken for a good 2 hours and used more lemon juice than it called for, but the finished product lacked any lemon flavor at all. The chicken was moist but the lemon flavor was missing. Quite disappointing.

Spinach Tomato Tortellini

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2009
This was a very good recipe. Very quick and easy. My family thought it could use some crushed red pepper to give the dish more zip and character, which we will do the next time we make this.

Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2009
This is an excellent cookie. I took other's advice and upped the amount of flour and baking soda, plus added 1/4 tsp. of cinnamon. I put the dough in the refrigerator for a couple of hours after mixing. These were a big hit!

Chicken In Basil Cream

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
I was so hopeful about this recipe as I really like all the ingredients, however I found it to be rather tasteless. Sorry about that!

Best Chocolate Pound Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
Although this definitely wasn't a "pound" cake, it was fabulous. Very light and moist. The taste is reminiscent of a Mexican brownie, probably because of the cinnamon. I added some chocolate chips, as a previous reviewer suggested but I am not sure it really needs it. I dusted the top of the cake with powdered sugar, which was all that it needed. My husband, not really a cake eater, actually went and got a second piece!!! (By the way, the picture shown is NOT a picture of this cake, and might turn people off to trying it. PLEASE get an accurate picture!)

Amazing Pork Tenderloin in the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: May 6, 2008
Sorry, we just didn't like this recipe at all and even threw out all leftovers. It was very heavy on the wine taste but was otherwise tasteless. It was also too salty and I used low sodium soy sauce.

Alaska Salmon Bake with Pecan Crunch Coating

Reviewed: May 6, 2008
This was a fabulous recipe!! I love salmon and pecans. The topping was just right - not too sweet, and not to mustardy. I would recommend this for anyone who love salmon. I would recommend baking it for closer to 20 minutes, covering it for the last 10. Thanks for a great addition to my recipe file.

Roast Beef Horseradish Roll-Ups

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2008
I made this recipe a long time ago when it was first in this site, but only now have remembered to give my review. We loved this recipe! We made it for a party and it was all eaten. The only change I would make would be to use baby spinach instead of regular spinach. It would be more tender. Enjoy!

Tiny Chicken Turnovers

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2007
I made this recipe this weekend for a party that I was having. Having read previous reviews, I knew to allow myself plenty of time to make these. I doubled the recipe, however I think I only needed to make maybe 1-1/2 times the filling recipe because there was a lot left over. I refrigerated the pastry dough overnight, but to be honest with you, I don't think I needed to. I reduced the butter to 3/4 cup per recipe. The dough became easier to work with the more it was handled. Also, roll the dough between two pieces of waxed paper, liberally floured. It is important to use a lot of flour because it is rolled so thinly. It took me 2-3 hours to roll and fill 65 turnovers! I made the honey mustard dipping sauce for these turnovers, and I highly recommend this. These were absolutely fabulous appetizers and well worth all the effort. I could not put them out fast enough.

Split Pea and Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2007
This was a very good recipe. I gave it only 4 stars for a couple of reasons. First, the amount of broth needed to be almost tripled to make it soup consistency. Also, the puree of sausage and broth was rather gross looking. We also found that if we put the soup in the food processor after it was all done, that we liked it better. It is a low fat - low calorie split pea soup which is a good alternative to those soups with cream or potato added. We will make this again with the changes noted.

Pasta in Vodka Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2007
This was a FABULOUS recipe! The only changes I made were to use mushrooms instead of celery, bacon and heavy cream instead of half and half. Also, the only vodka we had was citrus vodka. This was a fantastic recipe that we will have in our permanent recipe file. Thanks!

Bud's Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2007
This is a really great recipe. I am not usually a fan of potato salad, but I LOVE this recipe, as has everyone who has tasted it. I highly recommend it for those who love potato salad and even for those who don't, because you will after you taste this! I should add that I also put in a few hard boiled eggs, which makes it even better.

Actually Delicious Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: May 7, 2007
I must admit, I was a little scared to try these. However, a friend said she loves turkey burgers so I thought I would give them a try. These were absolutely delicious! Moist and full of flavor! I grilled these and then just ate it like a beef burger - with ketchup. I will be hard pressed to eat a beef burger again!

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2007
This was an excellent recipe, especially when the comments by reviewers are taken into consideration. I only used half of the white sugar sprinkled on the apples, plus only half of the brown sugar for the topping. It was wonderful, with vanilla ice cream. I halved the recipe and made it in an 8x8 pan, which was perfect. Thanks for a great recipe!

Granny's Oatmeal Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2007
This bread was a deep disappointment. I love oatmeal bread and expected the wonderful taste of oatmeal to shine in this recipe. However, the major flavor is the molasses. I followed the recipe exactly and was a little worried about the amount of molasses, but I read all the shining reviews I thought I would take a chance. Sorry, but this bread should maybe be named "Molasses Oatmeal" bread. In other words, molasses bread made with oatmeal. Sorry!

Filet Mignon with Rich Balsamic Glaze

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2007
I thought this recipe was okay. I made the sauce separately since I got prime filets. I didn't want to mask the wonderful flavor of the meat. The sauce was good and was also good over the asparagus we had. I will probably make this again. I added a TBL of brown sugar and a small clove of garlic.

Perfect Baked Potato

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2007
I was very disappointed with this recipe. I usually bake my potatoes at about 425 degrees for 45-60 minutes or so, and get a nicely crispy skin and fluffy insides. From all the kudos given this recipe I thought it might be an improvement. I followed the recipe as written, but left it in the oven an extra 15 minutes because the potatoes were bigger. I found that the skin was soft instead of crispy. I cannot see adding extra calories with the oil and extra salt, to a recipe that isn't as good as I usually make. Sorry!

Chicken Breasts in Caper Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2007
This was a fabulous recipe! The only "changes" I made were to pound the chicken breasts flat, add a minced garlic clove to the melted butter, and double the sauce as other readers suggested. I only used two chicken breasts (there are only two of us), but doubled both rub and the sauce. This was indeed a meal for company. Thanks!

Cinnamon Coffee Cake II

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2007
This was a FABULOUS coffee cake. Not only was it delicious, but it was easy and fast to make. I got more compliments on this cake than any other that I brought to my little group. The only change I made was to substitute 1/2 cup oil and 1/2 cup applesauce, for the cup of oil. The applesauce not only made the cake very moist, but it also gave it a slight apple taste which was wonderful. I recommend this to anyone at all who wants to impress other people. I now have to make up a number of copies of this recipe to give out to friends. Enjoy!
