About this Cook
I am married and the mother of 6 kids. 3 boys and 3 girls. I am 35 years old and i am currently a stay at home mom. I enjoy cooking and i have been doing it for the past 20years or longer. One day i plan on opening my own soul food restaurant.
My favorite things to cook
My favorites are soul food. But I mostly like to bake cakes. 7-up and pound cakes are my specialty.
My favorite family cooking traditions
EVERY YEAR DURING THE HOLIDAYS MY MOTHER,MYSELF AND TWO SISTERS ALL GET IN THE KITCHEN TOGETHER AND COOK. WE PUT ON MUSIC AND WE HAVE A BLAST. WE STAY UP UNTIL THE WEE HOURS IN THE MORNING SHARING STORIES AND JUST TELLING ABOUT THE OLD TIMES.(AND THE NEW ONES ALSO)
My cooking triumphs
ONE YEAR WHEN I DID MY FIRST THANKSGIVING WITHOUT THE HELP OF MY MOTHER. EVERYONE SAID THE FOOD WAS GOOD.
My cooking tragedies
When as a teenager I tried to make this cake with green food coloring and the whole thing came out a disaster. Horrible!!

Hot Italian Giardiniera
Here where I live they have discontinued Giardiniera and I have been on the computer trying to find where they sell it and so far nothing. I have decided to make it myself since when I go into a store and ask for it people look at me funny. Thank you for the recipe. I will definately make some up minus the peppers because my kids love this stuff also. Again thank you for sharing your recipe.

Elva's Custard Pie
I took someone elses advice and I used 1 cup of whole milk and 1 cup of evaporated milk for mines. I made a double recipe so everything was doubled. I also used a stick of butter because I was doing two pies. Used the deep dish pie shells because regular would have not been deep enough. other wise great recipe and great aroma throughout my home. It isnt like moms but it was still a hit in my house.
