About this Cook
I love to cook and have been cooking most of my life. My Mom and Grandmothers were great cooks and gave me a good start. But I have taught myself a lot since I moved away from them early in my marriage. I love reading cookbooks and browsing the recipes on this site. I am reading blogs and books on healthy eating and real foods. Cutting back on "factory farmed food like substances" and eating more organic like in my youth.
My favorite things to cook
I make pizza about once weekly. I like to make cookies and desserts. Many years ago when they first came out with Airbake cookie sheets I bought them. Love them! Your cookies stay nice and chewy and never burn or get too dry. Pot roast and fried chicken are 2 of favorites. My husband and I enjoy Mexican, Italian, and chinese food but good old American home cooking is the best. We eat grass fed beef and I grow the herbs for our favorite Italian meat sauce.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love all the traditional Thanksgiving foods. My son and I have perfected a brined turkey, cornbread dressing, and gravy. I make candied sweet potatoes and cranberry relish too and of course pumpkin pie! After a couple of decades of buying the false ideas on nutrition I am returning to a traditional way of cooking and eating.
My cooking triumphs
I love a simple brisket in the crockpot and have been cooking them that way for 40 years. About 30 years ago I made my first homemade Italian sauce and still make it as it is so much better than jarred store bought sauce. I make it and freeze any leftovers.
My cooking tragedies
The only ones I can recall were when I had a concussion and kept forgetting things and burning them!

Real Fig Preserves
I just made these for the first time and they were delicious. Well what I licked off the spoon and pan was as I am letting the jars sit for 2 days like the recipe says. I did it just like written except I only had ground ginger and one lemon so I used them and added lime juice for the 1 T. I don't think it made a big difference but plan to make just like recipe next time. I used brown turkey figs. Thanks for sharing this recipe Delanna!

Focaccia Bread
This was very good. My favorite 5 star foccacia ferments overnight, but this is great for when I forget to start it the night before!

Taco Seasoning I
I was happy to find this. I have a black pepper allergy and my husband is on a reduced salt diet so it is great to be able to make this omitting the pepper and using lite salt. We love cumin and was happy to see it included. Years ago I would add more to the packets. I made it with New Mexico red chili powder. The tacos were delishish!
