Best Stovetop BBQ Ribs

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
Both my husband and I were skeptical about cooking ribs on the stovetop, but these were fantastic! As per the recommendations of other reviewers, I double the sauce. Changed nothing else and this was delicious. I would NOT serve store bought BBQ sauce w/ this, as the flavor of the sauce in the recipe is outstanding. If anything, I would perhaps marinate the ribs in the sauce first, or just cook longer to allow the ribs to absorb more flavor, for those who thought the flavor was not strong enough.

Delicious. I found the chipotle salsa in a small can in the Latino food section of my grocery store.

Taste was so so, but the dish is soggy and just looks unappetizing.

Rich and Simple French Onion Soup

The flavor is great and my husband loves this recipe. Although I do love french onion soup, all the butter in this recipe left me feeling kind of yuck.

Chocolate Cappuccino Cheesecake

I followed the directions to a T, but my cheesecake cracked and just fell apart when trying to slice. Probably not the recipe's fault, I've just never made cheesecake before.

Taco Pan Pizza

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2008
I did not read the recipe through b/f printing and buying ingredients. It wasn't until I started making it that I realized that this would be a cold dish. Kind of threw me for a loops since I had decided to add lean ground beef seasoned w/ taco seasoning for my husband. In any event, it was delicious, and we both agreed that it would have been as good or better w/o the meat.

Buffalo Chicken Dip

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2008
Great recipe for tailgating! I used three large boneless, skinless breasts which I boiled, cooled, then threw in a food processor. This fine consistency was great for a dip. I also used twice as much Texas Pete buffalo wing sauce. (Okay, this was a little much, and next time I'll probably use 1 cup. 3/4 c. seemed insufficient, but 1.5 c. was a little strong.) I also warmed the dip in casserole dish in the oven. I will make this for the guys again, but will leave off the cheese topping, and maybe omit it altogether. You cannot taste the cheese, and I'm not sure what this even adds to the recipe. Anyway, what does cheddar cheese have to do w/ the taste of buffalo wings? All in all, this dip was a hit, and the recipe yields enough to feed a large group of strapping young men and then some.

Banana Cranberry Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2008
Used butter instead of shortening, added more walnuts and cranberries. Otherwise made according to recipe. I made this recipe and a chocolate chip banana bread recipe, thinking my husband would like that more. He actually liked this one better. Very moist and declicious.

Yum. Upped the chocolate chips and walnuts. Otherwise, made according to recipe. Makes enough to keep one loaf at home and send one to work.

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2008
Due to a Christmas Eve crisis, I had to use the ingredients I had on hand. Therefore, I substituted the fresh chopped onions for French's fried onions and also used the fried onions for the topping instead of crumbled Ritz. I also used only half the shredded cheese as we were also having homemade mac and cheese for Christmas lunch. Everyone seemed to like this version of green bean casserole better than the traditional condensed soup recipe. I may, however, omit the cheese altogether next time, as the sour cream makes the dish rich and creamy enough.

Fried Butterflied Shrimp

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2008
I agree with the other reviewers who recommend cutting down or halving the water, eggs, and cornstarch. I sprinkled a bit of cajun seasoning on the shrimp before battering. Glad I did, or esle it would have been a little bland for our taste.

Italian Breaded Pork Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2007
The pork chops were good, but tasted almost exactly like the oven "fried" pork chops I usually make. The bread crumb mixture yields about twice as much as is needed to coat 4 pork chops. Next time, I think I will use only 1 cup of breadcrumbs so the parmesean flavor can really come through.

Tiramisu Layer Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2007
This cake was definitely worth the time and effort. My mom LOVES tiramisu, and was thrilled to have a tiramisu cake for her birthday. The only changes I made were adding a bit more Kahlua, as recommended in other reviews, and making two coffee layers w/ only one white cake layer. To die for!

Honey Walnut Shrimp

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2007
I couldn't find mochiko at my local grocery store, but I did find and use a gluten-free rice flour. B/c of its very fine consistency, I was able to get light and fluffy fried shrimp, just like they make in really good Chinese restaurants. The sauce was amazing. My husband LOVES this dish. Add a side of Jasmine rice, and you have a complete meal.

Broccoli Chicken Casserole I

Quick, easy, delicious. I some of the advice below and added one can cream of chicken soup. I also mixed all ingredients together, spread in casserole dish, and topped w/ bread crumbs. We served it over rice. Will definitely make this again, especially when time is of the essence.

Homemade Chicken Fettuccine

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2006
Mmmm, this is restaurant quality chicken fettucine alfredo. Actually, it's much better than some alfredo I've had at restaurants. Although my husband and I really enjoyed it, we put it on our list of things to eat only once a year. I've always known how fattening it is, but to make it yourself - whew!

Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2006
I was surprised that this spaghetti carbonara was comparable to some that I've had in Rome. (However, did not compare to the best carbonara I've had, which was in Florence - ah, memories). I did not add the white wine. Also, I was confused about reserving the 2t. bacon grease - I thought it meant to add later. I ended up adding it at some point later, and it still turned out fine. Now I see that it means drain all bacon grease excpet for 2t. and proceed w/ recipe. I will do this next time.

White Bean Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2006
Yummy! This is my new favorite cold weather recipe. I could not find canned tomatillos in my local grocery store, but I did find fresh ones which I used. I have never cooked w/ tomatillos before, but now I can't wait to find other recipes that include this ingredient. The chili was great 'as is' and even better with a dollop of sour cream on top. Also, this chili freezes well.
