Sopapilla Cheesecake Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2010
We were looking for a mexican dessert for an office party. I chose this one for one of the girls to make. It was great! I can't wait to try it on the family.

White Cheese Chicken Lasagna

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2010
I love white sauces but this wasn't the best for us. Hubby said I could make again but he didn't want it on a regular basis. I much prefer to make the chicken florentine receipe from this site.

Ten Bean Soup II

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2010
I Made a couple of adjustments based on other reviews by using c-broth and letting rest over night before serving. used ham instead of sausage. Didn't get rave reviews but everyone ate it. I think we prefer my old fashion pinto beans to this. Probably won't make again.

Albondigas

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2010
I rated this a two because majority rules. Hubby & daughter would only eat the meatballs. I personally loved it. I did cheat and used frozen MB, and I added a little more potato than it called for as well. I precooked the meatballs and sponged them with a papertowel. I haven't had great success with meatball soups. They all turnout too greasy and this seemed to really help. Unfortunately I probably won't be making this again since the family didn't like it.

Mexican Corn

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2010
Not really sure how to rate this. I needed a second dish to take to a pot luck and I had all the ingredients. Reminded me of a couple of recipes I've fixed including one of my own but it really wasn't all that in book. I followed the recipe because I didn't have time for frozen corn as others had suggested. I didn't use fresh peppers because I only had jarred peppers. It had a kick to it but it wasn't unedible regarding heat so I did okay judging the amount. Two people asked for the recipe and the firemen in the group said it was was good. I had eight people in the group and I still had some left but not a lot. I might fix it again for another mexican pot luck because it was so simple but I'm not sure. I gave it a three because I was asked for the recipe but for me it didn't knock my socks off.

Chicken and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2010
I'm only giving this a two star as written. It was a good base recipe & probably should be a three but I'm leaning (this is a standard tator soup recipe with junk added in and I love regular tator soup with nothing more than s&p but I/we felt with the veggies for some reason it needed more). With the changes hubby said it was good and I could fix again which says something at my house. So for those that felt the same way here's what I did (& I don't like using canned soup)--take it or leave it. I added two cans of cream of chicken & one can of cheddar cheese. A pinch of sage, a teaspoon of garlic powder, a fourth of cup of sour cream, a cup of mixed blend mexican cheese & alot of pepper. I prefer spicy, hubby doesn't & I added salsa to my bowl. Again good base recipe & I will fix again but will keep playing with it. Thanks for the recipe!

Laura's Quick Slow Cooker Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2010
I followed the directions to a "T" and this was by far the weirdest tasting recipe I've ever made. Very different. Hubby dumped some bbq sauce in his and really liked it. If I make this again I will substitute one can of the t-soup for one can of stewed tomatoes. I like tomato soup but didn't care for strong hint of it in this recipe. Becareful on the crockpot though. I cooked it one day, & stuck in the fridge. The next day when I got home from one job, I plugged it in and came home from my second job about six/seven hours later & it was burned. The newer crockpots just cook hotter. Not sure if I'll make again but it was a change.

Hearty Turkey Stew with Vegetables

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2009
Made this today. Hubby likes hearty soups so had to adjust some by adding more tators & turkey plus salt & pepper. I left the bell pepper out. It was bland but good for a change & a nice change from turkey sandwiches. (My neighbor really liked it.) Didn't knock any socks off but everyone ate it. After we ate the first batch I added some cooked frozen peas to it & a little left over giblet gravy & served over mashed potatoes & with garlic toast to change up the leftovers & man oh man was that good!

Easiest Peanut Butter Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2009
I may try this again because of the reviews but hubby wouldn't eat it. I feel like maybe I did something wrong but I double checked the recipe this a.m. to make sure I did it correctly last night and followed directions to a t.

Cheeseburger Soup I

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2009
Love the heartiness of the soup plus the fact I always have everything on hand except maybe the carrots, and that it was quick & easy. It wasn't bad but...... we felt something was off on the recipe. I added more cheese (the cheddar as the recipe called & then I added velveeta when you couldn't taste the cheese). I also added two more tators than the recipe called for. Hubby said it was okay to fix a couple of times a year but not in the rotation so that's why I rated a 3 star. HOWEVER, the first day we ate it as the recipe called for but the second day we added a can of cheddar cheese soup. After the cc soup was added, he said yummy, yummy fix it whenever! Thanks for the recipe.

Roasted New Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2009
I had friends over and didn't want to make hashbrowns for breakfast so decided to go this route. Definately and easy dish to fix and I love that. I've made this dish for about a year but I've always used a skillet, but the oven is alot easier. Made these again, & hubby says these are the best next to homefried tators. I may try to add onions next time. Thanks for the recipe.

Buttermilk Pie IV

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
Buttermilk pie is a tradition at our house and I lost the recipe. Decided to try this one. Hubby is the Bmilk pie freak and he said it was the best one I had ever made. I reduced the sugar to a little shy of 2 cups but other than that followed the recipe to a T, which is suprising because the other recipe called for three cups sugar which I always reduced. Anyway, thanks so much for the recipe. I'm making it again today cause I bought too much buttermilk!

Steak Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
I really shouldn't rate this but....I made this last night. I cooked the stew chunks all day in the crockpot with the appropriate seasons minus the mushroom gravy. Transferred to a sautee pan to thicken and placed in pie crust. I did not add the mushroom gravy packet (possibly my bust) because so many had commented to make your own & I used regular pie crust because I couldn't find the puff pastry. I didn't even try it because hubby was so dissastified. He said it needed alot more seasoning and he'd prefer seeing some tators & veggies in it--surprising come from my carnivore. I'm rating with a three because I didn't follow the directions exactly but I would definately suggest tasting the meat mixture and adding seasoning to your taste before placing in the pie plate. I am going to try again but I'm going to make beef stew next time and use the left overs to fill the pie plate.

Meatball Stew

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
We weren't really impressed. I used a big bag of meatballs so doubled everything else. The flavor wasn't really all that bad, but the dish was very greasy. Unless you pre-cook the meatballs and soak up the grease, before adding them, I don't know how you'd fix the problem. Probably won't make again in the crockpot. I may use the meatballs as a main dish cook them, and mix the gravy mix on the side. After soaking up the grease on the meatballs, pour the gravy over and maybe serve with mashed potatoes or something.

Butter Beef

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2009
I was hoping to really like this recipe. I love all the ingredients but even my salt eating husband couldn't eat it. If I would have had some red wine I would have tried that but I didn't. I added one can of cream of mushroom and one can of cheddar cheese, some reg mayo, some miracle whip and cream to try to take some of the saltiness out and managed to some degree but I still got four nose crinkles. It is definately not something we wlll try again. Sorry but keep them coming.

Scalloped Potatoes II

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2009
Made this last night. Parboiled the tators to cut down on cooking time and premade made the roux on the stove top--cooked in the oven about 20-30 minutes. Wasn't thrilled with the outcome so I added some cheese. My daughter and her boyfriend thought they were pretty good but no one came back for seconds, and they suggested adding bacon. Hubby just looked at me and said isn't it cheaper and easier to buy the box stuff? With the cheese added I thought they were okay, but nothing special. I appreciate the recipe but probably won't make again.

Hamburger Soup III

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2009
I have to say I'm surprised by the ratings. I was excited to make it as it seemed like a very versitile soup and inexpensive. I won't be making it again. I managed to save it by adding some chili beans and a half a package of chili mix to it and the family ate it but....

Suburban Cowboy Delight

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2009
I'm not into sweets so it didn't appeal to me personally, but I had a few bites and it wasn't bad. Reminded me alot of sloppy joes. Hubby loved it and said he'd give it a six, and he hasn't given a five to anything on this website so far. If you like baked beans and/or sweet meats, I think this will be a definate do over for you. I have to say the chili gave it some kick for me and the meat/beans for my old cowboy. I don't see it, but hubby says next time to try and make some hash browns to pour it over. I'll give an update in a few weeks. It will go into the rotation per his request.

Heavenly Potatoes and Ham

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2009
i've made this twice now. Family didn't love it as much as me the first time and I left the bread crumbs off both times. The second time didn't log on and realized I had made before. I followed directions exactly and the par boil time is way off and didn't test anything since I was home making it at lunch. I still thought the recipes was good and hubby said it was fixable again, but alterations needed as the first time. Great possibilities but be a cook and test as you go.
