I love to cook; there are very few things I enjoy more. I learned to cook from my grandmother, watching her make southern-style comfort food. And from there, I started cooking young, probably around the age of 8; surprising my parents with eggs for breakfast. Probably not the safest thing ever, but it was the start to my love of making good food. I live with my Fiance and like trying to get him to try new dishes. I watch Food Network like people watch sitcoms. I really enjoy Good Eats and any show with Paula Deen.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking desserts, Chocolate chip cookies in particular. My baking of desserts earned me the nickname "Betty Crocker" in my family.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cookies at Christmas, Especially a fruit-cake like cookie called "Lizzies" that my grandmother was famous for. Cooking for big family gatherings, always full of too much homemade foods.
My cooking triumphs
Any "new" dish I get my picky fiance to try and like, especially when he is skeptical about liking it. And my first experience canning at home, making the most amazing apple butter!
My cooking tragedies
Trying to multi-task and end up burning something. Nothing in particular stands out though. I get really sad when new recipe for cookies turns out to be not fit for eating. =(
