Slow Cooker Apple Cider Braised Pork

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2013
We overdid the pork a bit as we didn't buy the full 4 lbs -- it was fully our fault for not adjusting the cook time. But EVEN with that we were gobsmacked at how delicious this was. My husband and I were licking our plates. This won't simply be tossed into the recipe rotation; it's getting a place of honor.

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2011
Holy YUM! I made this with the exact recipe ingredients. The only think I did differently was mix the warm water and sugar and yeast in a bowl first, stirring occasionally during the ten minutes. I guess I just tend to hover a little ;). Anyway, the bread smelled FANTASTIC cooking an the taste does not disappoint. Very crunchy crust, perfectly moist and light inside, just a touch sweet which I adore. I'll make this bread A LOT.

Oaxacan Tacos

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2008
I hate to go against the allrecipes grain but what can I say? These were less than impressive. If you change/add something to a recipe and that makes it fantastic, don't give it five stars because the actual recipe is in fact lacking. These had an interesting taste; very clean and fresh, but my boyfriend didn't like them at all and even I have to say they were quite bland. I followed the recipe exactly. I will not be making these again.

Tofu and Cheese Stuffed Shells

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2008
I thought this was a pretty bland finale after all that work. I didn't take any 'short cuts', and there wasn't as much flavor as I was hoping. Also, I would double the filling -- unless you use a teeny bit you'll never fill all the shells. My 'warm through' took 40 minutes, and by then I was tired of waiting, but it still wasn't satisfyingly hot...overall, kind of a bummer. The three stars are three hopeful stars that I can zest it up a little next time.

Steak Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2008
This is one of our new favorites! I read the other reviews/suggestions carefully, and this is how I made it: Instead of the main veggie being carrots/celery, I used pea pods (awesome!). I did include a little carrot and the pepper and green onions as called for. I did double the sauce as suggested, HOWEVER, I did NOT double the soy sauce along with all the other ingredients. I had almost a 1/3 cup of soy, but ran out (D'oh) so added about 1/8 cup more of fish sauce. I think that gave it a good zing. I followed the recipe otherwise. Browning the meat beforehand worked out fine, and the sauce tasted FANTASTIC! Not too salty at all. I felt like the stir-fry was 'swimming' in it a little bit, but that is only an aesthetic observation. It still tasted great. You could probably get away with a little less than double the sauce, though, too.

Simple Whole Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
This recipe turned out really well for me, but I'm not sure it was totally by design. I don't have a lot of experience with whole chicken, so I don't know if the juices usually stay inside the skin most of the cooking time -- when I went to baste there was nothing in the pan to baste with because all the juice was still in there. This phenomena kept the chicken super moist, and really infused the garlic flavor. I did not marinate overnight; I put the spice mixture right on and cooked. From the taste I think it would have been overwhelming if it had been allowed to sit 24 hours. Immediate baking worked fine. I also added 1/2 chopped onion to the garlic on the inside. No smoke problems; I turned down the heat a little bit and it still cooked through. The flavor was unique; my boyfriend really loved it -- I will make it again!

Roasted Red Pepper Lasagna

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2007
First, I have to agree w/ h82ck: I could have used more pepper sauce when it came time to construct the layers. For someone who is *trying* to become a cook (me), this recipe is a little intimidating. I thought I was never going to be done. Plan accordingly! My boyfriend, however, is still talking about it, and I grudgingly admit that I absolutely loved it as well. Meat is normally what we base our main courses around, and for a vegetarian dish, this was unbelievably filling and satisfying. We are adding this to permanent recipe rotation and I will make it again as soon as I am up to the challenge!

Brown Rice and Black Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2007
Both my boyfriend and I were extremely impressed with the recipe. The ingredients were not what we usually eat, so we were fairly skeptical, but it was a pleasant surprise. We will definitely make this again, and often!

Garlic Mashed Potatoes Secret Recipe

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2006
I was able to make this for 4 servings, and even that worked out very well. My boyfriend raved and I really enjoyed it. This is definitely the best home-made mashed potatoes I've ever had. It was extremely easy, however, I would recommend chopping the garlic into as tiny pieces as possible. Every once in a while I would bite in to a bigger piece and it is too strong that way.

Chicken Pot Pie III

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2006
My boyfriend and I both really enjoyed this recipe. The thyme seems like it will be a little much when baking, but ends up flavoring perfectly in the end. I didn't have any difficulty with most of the preparation, but the ready-made pie crusts I bought gave me some trouble. The top one tore a lot when I tried to add it, however, it still came out great after being patched a little. Overall this was very easy and tasty -- we will make it again!
