Juiciest Hamburgers Ever

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2014
WOW! I have been making hamburgers wrong for a lot of years! I usually just make the patties, season them and throw them on the grill. Not anymore! I will be using this recipe from now on. I used 90% lean ground beef and these turned out AMAZING (we've had them twice now in the past 10 days and both times they turned out the same). The only variation I made to the recipe was to sprinkle a little bit of Lowry's on the patties before I put them on the grill. That's it. This one is a keeper!

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2014
I substituted beef broth for the water and added carrots and potatoes (because I love them with a pot roast). The carrots I added at the beginning of cooking and the potatoes I added 3 hours before it was supposed to be ready. Next time I'll put the potatoes in a little later (2-2 1/2 hrs before it's ready). If you use a lean roast (lean cut of meat, trim the fat) and add lots of veggies then it's very healthy.

Low Carb Pancake Crepes

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2013
My in-laws, who are on a low carb diet, loved them. I didn't personally taste them, but since the in-laws loved them I'm giving them 5 stars. :)

Spiced Sweet Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2013
This is my favorite hummus recipe. To kick it up a notch we use approximately 1 1/2 tbsp chipotle peppers in adobo sauce instead of the roasted red peppers and we add an extra clove of garlic because we LOVE garlic. :)

Corn Dip II

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2012
Everytime I make this I get asked for the recipe. I always log on to AllRecipes and print this for them. I use light versions of the ingredients (sour cream...) and I omit the lime juice and the cilantro and I cut down on the cumin. A little Accent will bring out the flavors in the ingredients. Yes, I know it's MSG, but I'm not adding a lot of it. I also often add black beans for a little added protein. Frito's scoops (or other corn chips) are pretty high in fat, so to cut back on fat try using crackers instead (Ritz Wheat Crackers are a good alternative). This recipe is great for snacking on while watching a football game on TV with a group.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2012
My husband said it was the best cornbread he's ever had. That earns this recipe 5 stars from me. I added two diced jalepenos (most of the seeds and membranes removed) for a little kick. This one is a keeper.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2012
If you're looking for a "caramel" apple pie then this pie is pretty good. If you're looking for a traditional apple pie then this is not the recipe you're looking for. I followed the recipe as written but I could not poor the sugar and butter liquid over the the crust because it was not a "liquid". It was more of a wet sand consistency and would have probably sat on top of the pie instead of traveling down through the apples... so, I did what most all the other reviewers did and I mixed my apples into it and left a little bit to brush on top of the pie. I sliced my apples with a Pampered Chef apple peeler/corer/slicer (which slices them to about 1/16") but for this pie I would recommend a thicker sliced apple as mine ended up a little limp. Also, 8 Granny's for a 9" pie was a MOUNTAIN of apples. Be prepared. I was a little shocked. But they did cook down into a good size pie. The apples ended up pretty tart tasting so I would probably go with a Braeburn or other apple that bakes well but is a little sweeter and less tart. I used a prepared pie crust and for the lattice I just took a small heart cookie cutter and cut out heart shapes for the lattice then used the cutouts to go around the pie crust. That turned out really cute. This recipe is four stars in my opinion. That's not bad! It would be five if I didn't want to change anything about the recipe.

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2011
It was good, but it was too sweet. I love sweet, so for me to say it was too sweet it had to be REALLY sweet. I'll cut down on the amount of honey next time and then it might be perfect.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2011
Mmmmm Mmmmm Good! We followed some of the other reviewers advice and substitued celery seed for the celery. The first time we made it we used the small diced ham in the package. It was even better the second time we made it because we chopped up a ham steak and made the pieces a bit larger than the small diced ham. Looking forward to using this recipe when I have leftover ham after Easter. Thank you for sharing this recipe. It's DELICIOUS! Best ham and potato soup we've ever had.

Carrot Pudding

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2011
I'd never had carrot pudding and thought I'd give it a try. I didn't have a 1 pound coffee can so I used two 28 oz glass jars and that worked out fine. I didn't realize I didn't have raisens until it was too late so I didn't add those. I gave it four stars because I'm going to have to experiment with the sugar to get the sweetness down to where it's sweet, but not overly sweet. This dessert is VERY RICH and VERY VERY SWEET. Other than that it was delicious.

Groovy Green Smoothie

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2011
The taste was good. The texture was a little off-putting to my husband (it was fine for me). You might want to use a strainer to get a majority of the fruit skins (apple and grape) out before you serve it.

World's Best Lasagna

Grandma VanDoren's White Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2011
Looks just like the picture, Yummy! Didn't change a thing. It was super easy. Just takes time to let it rise (several times) but I didn't mind. It made 3 loaves so hopefully you have three loaf pans in your home. I went out and bought the aluminum loaf pans (they come three to a pack) and that worked out perfectly. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Super easy, best chicken soup I ever made! I added 1/3 c Ancini de Pepe pasta to it and let it cook in the broth prior to serving. I also garnished with freshly grated parmesan cheese. My husband and teenage daughter LOVED it!

Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2011
I followed the directions as written. I don't know what gave everything that sweetness, but wherever the sweetness came from my family didn't like it. Maybe the carrots I used were too sweet? Or maybe I shouldn't have used red onion and should have used a yellow onion instead? Or maybe it was the ranch dressing mix? Anyway, to balance all that sweetness we had to use a bunch of salt to get the dish to the point where we'd eat it (yes, it was that sweet). And the chuck roast didn't turn out tender enough in my opinion. We had to cut ours with a knife. I cooked it the specified time and it was not tender. Then I kept it in there and kept checking back on it hoping that it would eventually get to that melt in your mouth falling apart point but it never got there. I'm going to keep looking for that slow cooker pot roast recipe.

Seven Layer Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2011
It has all the right incredients BUT it's important to have the correct layering AND you don't need sugar if you use Miracle Whip (instead of mayonaise). It should be lettuce on the bottow, then peas, mayo (having the mayo in the middle helps mix it all together when you scoop it out), we use chopped carrot and celery instead of cauliflower sometimes, onion, cheddar cheese and bacon on top.
