Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
This is a good pizza crust. Less baking time required when using a pizza stone.

Eileen's Spicy Gingerbread Men

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2008
This is a very good recipe. The cookies are flavorful, easy to roll, and hold up well. I wiil be reusing this one. Will work well for making gingerbread houses. The only changes I made were to add more spice and added lemon zest and a little lemon juice. It gave the dough an irredescent glow.

Lavender Tea Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2008
I haven't made this yet, but I felt the need to help. When baking/cooking w/lavender you use the flower, NOT the leaves. The loves are used in cosmetics. It is best to steep the flower in the warm liquid (in this case, milk), than removing the flower and adding the liquid to the recipe. I am looking forward to trying this recipe.

Bake Sale Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2008
I agree w/prior reviews about the crust being a gooey mess. I thought it was odd that the recipe said to use softened butter. The butter should be cold and cut in and then pressed to avoid the stickiness. Another thing I found odd was that it didn't call for lemon rind. What is a lemon bar w/o the lemony flavor of the rind. I added that. 20 minutes was way too long for the crust especially at 375. I baked it at 350 and it still only needed about 12 minutes before it started to brown. I would have preferred more filling as well. Most lemon bar recipes only call for the yolks so I will see how it turns out when it comes out of the oven. I am adding a special tough of sugared lemon rinds a top of the powered sugar for elegance.

Oat-N-Honey Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2008
I gave this recipe only 4 because I had to read the reviews on how to make it without a bread machine. I really HATE when all these bread recipes are posted for machine only! The bread is good. I did use sorgum instead of honey and more of it. Also, more yeast as another reviewer suggested. I will be using this one again. I also used more variety of flours. I used high gluten bread flour instead of all purpouse. Good results.

Easy Cream Cheese Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2008
I give it 5 stars because it is easy AND delicious! I used a little lime and lemon juice. I topped it w/fresh raspberries and dipped some raspberries in white chocolate for decoration. I used the leftover white chocolate for drizzle over the top. I did read the other revies and used 12 ounces of cream cheese so it wasn't too sweet. I also noticed one person mentioned it didn't set. There is a trick. You have to whip it really well. Also, really cool things happen when you add lemon/lime juice to sweetened condensed milk. It helps it gel up and set.

Whole Grain Waffles

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2008
These are really good whole grain waffles. I left out the flax, and substited wheat germ because I like the taste of wheat not flax.

Margaret's Southern Chocolate Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2008
I am a baker as in that is my profession. This pie was way too sweet. You could use half the amount of sugar and it would be much better. It is strange in texture. It is like a thick hershey syrup. If I make this again, I will half to make a few revisions.

Classic Bran Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2008
I don't give out five stars very often. Only if the recipe needs not improvement. This one does not. It is excellant! I used dates, because I had run out of raisins and they were excellant. Some w/o as well. These are better than the bakery muffins at the store. Fresh baked, mmmm. I am going to make these again. Next time I will try w/applesauce for a lower fat version, only because they are so good, I could eat the whole batch myself and need less calories! Thanks for the recipe!

Naan

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2008
I could only give the recipe 3 stars because it called for WAY too much flour. If someone had never made bread before, they would never get this recipe to work. As another user said, much LESS flour. Definately 3 cups.

It was good. I guess chocolate cake isn't my fave. I didn't think it was very moist. Not a spectacular flavor. But it was good.

Anise Overnight Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2008
I am trying to find a recipe for anise cookies that were like the ones my Grandma made for my Dad. My Grandma called them "rocks" I guess cause they were hard as rocks. My Dad likes them dunked in coffee. He said these were close, but remembers them w/some kind of glaze. I thought these were good, but will have to alter this one a bit or continue my search. But these were good.

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2008
Good chili. I did deviate from the recipe a bit due to things I did not have on hand. I cut the recipe in half. Still a full stock pot! I can't imagine it only being 5 servings. I used 1/4 cup of water instead of beer. We don't drink, so I did not have that on hand. I added 5 serrano peppers(we like it spicey) (deseeded). I don't like Italian sauage and couldn't find a place for it in chili, but I did have Jimmy Deans spicy breakfast sausage and used that instead. I used one chipotle boullian cube and one beef bouillian. I did not use bacon bits (coulnd't see the point as another user also stated). Turned out very tastey. I wouldn't say it's the "best" chili, but it's pretty good.
