Ginger Salmon

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2007
This wasn't horrible, but I didn't think it was fabulous. It kinda tasted like I'd just put a lot of mustard on some salmon. I'll probably keep looking for a salmon recipe.

Turkey Pot Pie I

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2006
This pie was delicious, but, as most reviewers have noted, was completely lacking in that wonderful gravy that usually comes from cutting into a warm pot pie. I did miss that. And I only used two potatoes instead of three, and that was plenty. So as far as pot pies go, it was mildly disappointing. BUT it was still a delicious dinner and even better for lunch at work the next day!

Irresistible Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2006
I realized, after making this pie and reading all of the reviews, that I actually DO like syrupy, sweet pecan pies. :) This pie gets 3 stars just on personal taste; this isn't what I expect from pecan pies, and whether or not that's a good thing depends on the individual preference. I put in half as many chopped and whole pecans as called for, and left out the crushed all together, and it was still an amazing amount of pecans. I only added a teaspoon of flour and that was enough for me. I used a Pillsbury crust, but considering this was my first time ever to make a pie, this was pretty easy and turned out nice. This is a great recipe if this is what you're looking for. I think I'll try something different next time.

Chicken and Dumplings III

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2006
This is one of my all-time favorite recipes. Even though it's super-easy, it still tastes wonderful! Like many others I boil my chicken in 2 cups of chicken broth (plus extra water to cover). I save all of the liquid that I end up with because my boyfriend likes the end result to be just-this-side of soupy. I also use breasts instead of thighs because he's not a fan of dark meat. Delicious, simple, and very comforting!

Addictive Sweet Potato Burritos

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2006
I have to say I was a bit disappointed, given all of the rave reviews...I thought the bean mixture was fabulous, that combination of flavors was delicious...but the sweet potatoes seemed out of place. They actually seemed, well, too sweet! And the amount of bean/sweet potato I ended up with didn't seem like enough to fill burrito-sized tortillas. Also, it's pretty time-consuming. I think this recipe would make great bean burritos, but as is it was kinda weird.

Chicken Tortilla Soup I

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2006
I loved this! It was fairly easy, very flavorful, and definitely hearty. Like another reviewer, I skipped the hominy and increased the corn accordingly...I almost doubled the amount of black beans, and used chopped pickled jalapenos instead of green chile peppers (all I could find!). Don't skimp on the chips and cheese! My boyfriend and I ate waaaay too much of this. :) Yummy!

Home-Style Vegetable Beef Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2006
This recipe was great! I was skeptical because it was so simple, and I'm used to seeing recipes that use several different spices, etc., but it was fabulous as is. I didn't put any corn in because it seemed out of place, and the potatoes took a little longer to get tender than the recipe says. I used canned green beans and they worked fine. It's nice to have a recipe you can throw together and walk away from, and it turns out delicious and filling. Thanks!

Cheese Ravioli with Three Pepper Topping

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2006
I thought this was good, but not great. I made half of the recipe and added one clove of garlic with the peppers, added one tsp of cornstarch + water into the broth to thicken it, and added a few shakes of garlic powder and onion powder while the broth was cooking. It still seemed pretty bland and was runny. It's a good way to get some veggies and I love bell peppers, it just wasn't an exceptional way to do ravioli. Would definitely need more garlic and red pepper to salvage.

Burmese Chicken Curry (Gaeng Gai Bama)

I was not wowed by this...it wasn't thrilling. It was a lot of work for not much...zing. Sorry, I guess I don't have the vocabulary to describe that better. :)

Penne with Spicy Vodka Tomato Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2006
Definitely one of the best recipes I've ever made! It comes together very easily and pretty quickly too. I usually use spicy Italian sausage and reduce the red pepper just a bit...Delicious and unusual, I make it almost every other week. Thanks for the recipe!

Jenn's Out Of This World Spaghetti and Meatballs

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2006
The meatballs were fabulous, but the sauce was almost inedible! Maybe I did something wrong, but the sauce was thick, pasty, and waaaay too sweet. I might try to meatballs with store-bought sauce next time...
