Roasted Okra

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2015
My husband reluctantly agreed to taste one bite. I was very surprised when he get gobbling it down as if I'd left cookies on the stove. Why have I never seen okra served this way before? This recipe will be used again and again at our house!

Turkey Pot Pie I

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2014
This was fantastic. My husband and daughter raved about it. Definitely recommend adding additional liquids as instructed in suggestions from others below. I added peas and used broth in lieu of water and bouillon.. YUM!

Reviewed the wrong recipe by accident. It won't let me delete it.

German Roasted Nuts

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2014
These were pretty good, though not what you get at a fair. The honey flavor was a bit overpowering and they were too sticky. I prepared the recipe as indicated with only one exception. In lieu of using all cashews, I used whole almonds, whole pecans and cashews in equal amounts. These were fine, but I will be looking for another recipe. I prepared these on PARCHMENT PAPER, not foil. The nuts did not even consider sticking to the parchment paper. Parchment paper is oven safe up to 420°F. I only use foil when I am unable to use parchment paper.

Healthier Southern Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2014
I make the original version of this recipe a few times every year when the peaches on my tree are ripe. I don't know that I even taste the difference from the original recipe. THANK YOU for adding this modified recipe as a separate recipe so we didn't have to sift through the comments. I will be making this again soon!

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2014
My husband is not easy to please, but he loved this recipe. I paired it with roasted red potatoes and glazed carrots. Instead of the bouillon & 1/2 cup of wine, I added 1/4 cup of vegetable broth and 1/4 cup cooking sherry. This recipe made about four times as much sauce as was necessary. It was so delicious, I hated to pour it down the drain.

Coconut Macaroons German Style

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2008
I do not typically like Macaroons, but I am giving this recipe 5 stars because these were the best Macaroons I have ever had. I followed the recipe exactly with one exception. I reduced the amount of almond extract because I do not care for the flavor. My husband still loved them.

Pork Fried Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2008
This was far better than the take-out we have been getting. YUM!! I will definitely be making this for my husband & daughter again! I made only minor modifications: * 1 (6 ounce) chicken tenderloin, cut into pieces * 1 cup frozen peas & carrots * 1 green onion, chopped * 2 tablespoon butter * 2 egg, beaten * 3 cup cold, cooked jasmine rice (was 1 cup uncooked) * ~2 Tbsp soy sauce * garlic powder (to taste) * ground ginger (to taste)

Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2007
My husband is still raving about this recipe. After a few failed attempts at Carbonara with another recipe, we are quite pleased to have found this one. We will definitely be making this again. We doubled the bacon, added 1/4 cup heavy cream, a couple of sprinkles of nutmeg and next time we will add some sauteed mushrooms. YUM!

My sister-in-law made this last summer and we have requested it several times. My husband and I are so excited to have the recipe so we can have it at home whenever we want. This recipe is good enough to make me want to plant another peach tree. =)

Bacon Wrapped Hamburgers

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2007
My husband thought that these burgers were fantastic, but didn't like the bacon (which created an inferno in our grill and didn't add much in the way of flavor). Though similar to the flavor of the burgers I usually make, I found the onion flavor in this recipe a little too overpowering.

Beef Stroganoff III

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2007
I used this recipe because I was unable to find my mother's recipe for Beef Stroganoff, but found this to be almost as good. The only modifications I made were: 1) I used sirloin (in lieu of a chuck roast) and sliced the beef significantly smaller. 2) Marinated beef in red wine over night (in lieu of adding white wine at the end) 3) I sauteed fresh mushrooms with the onions (in lieu of adding canned mushrooms at the end) My husband thought it was fantastic!!

My husband and I did not care for these, but thank you for the suggestion regarding plumping the raisins in water in the microwave. I will definitely try that out with a different cookie recipe. =)
