I've just started my first year of university, attending Ryerson (in downtown Toronto, Canada) with a focus in graphic communications. I've been cooking since I was little, and once I was allowed to cook on my own, I've never looked back.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook anything with pasta in it, from spaghetti to lasagna. I'm partial to tomato sauces, but my babcia (grandmother) makes a killer seafood linguine - a recipe I'm eager to learn!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas is definitely the biggest holiday for my family, following a traditional Polish dinner: 13 dishes with no meat whatsoever. I love being old enough now to really pitch in and contribute to making the dinner, to take the burden off my mother and my grandmother.
My cooking triumphs
Definitely the first time I made bread. It's become a staple in my house to have homemade bread and baguettes instead of buying the store-bought alternatives.
My cooking tragedies
There's so many to choose from! There was the time that I (stupidly) put a rock-hard bag of brown sugar in the microwave and started a small fire; the time I forgot to turn the oven on while baking a cake, and wondering why it wasn't rising - actually, pretty much any time I make cake, something goes wrong.
