Cherry Shortbread Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2010
Is there a certain technique I'm missing out on regarding shortbread cookies? As another reviewer states back in 2000 these ran all over my baking sheet as well. They're flatter than a pancake and I'm disappointed. I don't recommend using this recipe if you're not sure what you're doing. Try a recipe with more in depth instructions.

Turkey-Rice Supper

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2010
If executed as suggested there would not be enough broth for the amount of time the dish takes. I used an entire box (32oz) of chicken broth through the duration of this recipe. This dish is a little bland for us so the second time around I added chopped green onion. Carrot slivers and splashes of low-sodium soy sauce throughout the cooking helped a lot too. It's a great springboard for what your family prefers.

Green Beans 'n' Celery

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2010
It's definitely missing the "wow" factor and could use a little punching up. It's not bad but it's not memorable either. Sorry, Marian, I guess this dish wasn't for us. Thanks for the submission though!

Chocolate Pecan Pie III

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2010
Oh yeah, this definitely hit the spot, Ruth. Thanks for sharing this, we all enjoyed it very much. I'm making it again for our Thanksgiving dessert but we're going to use walnuts instead (I used up all my pecans!). UPDATE: Walnuts don't work well with this recipe, my mistake. They're too heavy and the textures don't compliment one another. Stick with pecans, and if you're out - wait until you can buy more. This recipe is awesome as is.

Pecan Pie III

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2010
For the life of me I could never get this pie to completely set, even after cooling for a considerable amount of time. I put it back in the oven for a good 20 minutes but to no avail, still soup. Sorry, Pat. Possibly a tablespoon of flour would help? I'll investigate.

Creamy Chocolate Frosting II

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2010
I like this recipe a lot, it reminds me of the tub frosting you'd by at the grocery. I like the fact it hardens quickly yet it's still creamy at the same time. Thanks for sharing this, I'll use it often.

Surprisingly enough these cookies were bland and I don't plan on making them again. I'm disappointed.

Honey Almond Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
I prepared the butter, onion, honey, almonds and lemon on the stove-top as directed and poured it over my frozen chicken breasts until they reached room temperature. Then baked as directed. BOY was this an awesome dish! Juicy, tender, and comforting. I'll definitely make this again and I won't hesitate making it for guests. Thanks CRAFTYGIRL!

It's good. Had to bake it an additional 20 minutes but other than that it went over well, thanks Vivian.

Cranberry Squares

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2010
Very good but not simple to make. Not for me at least. I'm not good at making "crumbles" so it took me a lot longer than it should. I doubled that part of the recipe to make sure the bottom was well covered as well as the top. I'm pleased I made that decision, it was tasty and the appearance was well put together. As a matter of fact I doubled the entire recipe. I ended up using two cans of cranberry sauce; one jellied and one jellied with whole berries. I apologize for reviewing the recipe in spite of my alterations but I figured it was alright seeing how I used the same ingredients, just more of them, lol. I did, however, make an orange/pecan glaze when it was all said and done and it was a great compliment to the cake. (My orange glaze: confec sugar, orange zest & juice, & pecan pieces)

Juicy Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2010
I just now realized we forgot to eat the celery inside the chicken. I was confused with it anyway when I was putting it inside, I don't know what purpose it served/serves. But the chicken was very tasty and I am glad I went with this recipe today - everyone enjoyed it very much, thank you ROBIN! It's simple and worth it.

Grandmother's Pound Cake II

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2010
Classic! I used just two 8x4 loaf pans and they baked wonderfully, there was no mess. 3 loaf pans would have made the cakes too small. My boyfriend said this recipe reminds him of the Pound Cakes his mother used to bake when he was a child. Without a doubt a 5 star recipe. Thanks WHOLEGRAINWOMAN. This is my new "go-to" recipe for pound cake. I can't wait to share this outside of the home.

Unbeatable Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2010
The cooking time was off, for me, the pie was a bit soupy but I get that with 99% of the pecan pie recipes I make. And I am not sure why exactly, lol. The maple syrup was a nice change, thanks, it was interesting.

Easy Whole Wheat Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2010
"As is" they are little too sweet for my taste but that's alright, I'll just cut down on both the honey and brown sugar next time. For my second batch I really altered the recipe using milled flax seed, wheat germ, pecans and a drop of banana extract. BOY were those great additions! The recipe doesn't "need" anything but it was fun making it healthier. And they were easier to deal with once chilled a few moments in the fridge.

Horseradish Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
It is what it is. I don't recommend using this for an entree but for an appetizer instead. Fried green tomatoes or possibly sweet potato fries as another reviewer mentioned. I tried a dab on a bite of steak and it killed the flavor of the steak, definitely took a wrong turn there, lol. This is perfect if you want to mask something.

These were something new and fun for us, I like it. Next time I'll place them individually in cupcake liners because they're awfully messy and I like to share my sweets outside of the home. Thanks Colleen.

Slow Cooker Chicken Dinner

I like these versatile recipes, you can add whatever your family enjoys. This one in particular lacks the "wow" factor but I still appreciate the springboard aspect. I like throwing something in the crock pot so family & friends can feast at their leisure. Thanks Jenet.

Super Crunch Oven Cooked Honey Dipped Wings

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2010
This needs to be retitled to "Super Tasty"! Every single person in the house tonight enjoyed these very much. The honey drench totally hit the mark and easily became a favorite for me. Along with many other reviewers I am surprised these haven't been reviewed more. This recipe definitely needs promotion. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe.
