Grandmother's Pound Cake II

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2010
Classic! I used just two 8x4 loaf pans and they baked wonderfully, there was no mess. 3 loaf pans would have made the cakes too small. My boyfriend said this recipe reminds him of the Pound Cakes his mother used to bake when he was a child. Without a doubt a 5 star recipe. Thanks WHOLEGRAINWOMAN. This is my new "go-to" recipe for pound cake. I can't wait to share this outside of the home.

Unbeatable Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2010
The cooking time was off, for me, the pie was a bit soupy but I get that with 99% of the pecan pie recipes I make. And I am not sure why exactly, lol. The maple syrup was a nice change, thanks, it was interesting.

Easy Whole Wheat Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2010
"As is" they are little too sweet for my taste but that's alright, I'll just cut down on both the honey and brown sugar next time. For my second batch I really altered the recipe using milled flax seed, wheat germ, pecans and a drop of banana extract. BOY were those great additions! The recipe doesn't "need" anything but it was fun making it healthier. And they were easier to deal with once chilled a few moments in the fridge.

Horseradish Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
It is what it is. I don't recommend using this for an entree but for an appetizer instead. Fried green tomatoes or possibly sweet potato fries as another reviewer mentioned. I tried a dab on a bite of steak and it killed the flavor of the steak, definitely took a wrong turn there, lol. This is perfect if you want to mask something.

Frosted Corn Flake Cereal Clusters

These were something new and fun for us, I like it. Next time I'll place them individually in cupcake liners because they're awfully messy and I like to share my sweets outside of the home. Thanks Colleen.

Slow Cooker Chicken Dinner

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2010
I like these versatile recipes, you can add whatever your family enjoys. This one in particular lacks the "wow" factor but I still appreciate the springboard aspect. I like throwing something in the crock pot so family & friends can feast at their leisure. Thanks Jenet.

Super Crunch Oven Cooked Honey Dipped Wings

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2010
This needs to be retitled to "Super Tasty"! Every single person in the house tonight enjoyed these very much. The honey drench totally hit the mark and easily became a favorite for me. Along with many other reviewers I am surprised these haven't been reviewed more. This recipe definitely needs promotion. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe.

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2010
I don't understand the folk who substituted vanilla for the almond extract, "almond" is in the title and it's a crucial ingredient. These cookies rock! We rolled them about an inch and only yielded 32 cookies. I don't see how we could have gotten 36 at the size suggested (1 1/2"). The next time I make these I will wait for the cookies to cool completely before drizzling because it puddled to the middle of the cookie and didn't really look appealing. (I say that because I gave them as a gift.) Thanks for sharing this recipe, it's now our 2nd favorite cookie.

Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2010
My boyfriend and I really like these cookies. I actually like the fact they are cake-like. Possibly baking this in a tube pan would compliment the texture better, slicing it like a loaf of bread. I did add 2 extra bananas as I noticed a lot of people said the taste was faint. I am also a big fan of extracts and added a drop of banana extract. I'm very pleased with this recipe and plan to share it outside of the home. BTW, if you plan to make these you may want to eat them up right then and there because they do not store well. They're extremely moist and tend to stick to one another.

The texture is not what I was looking for and my boyfriend didn't like them either. I'll continue my search. Sorry, Elaine.

Healthy Honey Carrot Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2010
My kids enjoyed these the night we baked them but haven't asked for them since. They're rather bland, possibly some cinnamon next time? They were on the puffy side, they didn't bake down at all. Also a little dry.

Pineapple Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2010
I added the lemon extract, Candy Lady, thanks for adding that to the reviews (I was going to do that anyway, lol). I frosted the top of a lemon pound cake and it was awesome. I like the consistency of this frosting, it doesn't run yet it is firm enough for spreading. I will definitely use this again with and without the pineapple juice. In my opinion it's the right amount of each ingredient, for what I was looking for of course. Thanks Candy Lady, after searching hours for a frosting I finally found something right for me.

Cold Oven Pound Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2010
My goodness, what a treat! This was super easy to make, it's delicious and very sweet. The batter was creamy, came together very well and resembled liquid silk. If that makes sense. One of the prettiest & simplest desserts I have ever made. Thanks Etta, I'm more than pleased with this recipe. It's now my go-to recipe for a guaranteed tasty pound cake.

Great sauce, Judy...thanks for the submission. I shredded the leftovers the next day for a simple salad and the chicken was so juicy in flavor that I didn't need salad dressing. Thanks again.

Banana Frittata

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2010
We really enjoyed this, whatever it did to my bananas was fabulous, very sweet. I was able to get 4 servings from this because I spread my batter to the edges of the pan. Hard to flip but I managed! I ate my portion like I would a piece of pizza, that part was fun for the kids! Next time I will decrease or even omit the oil, I don't even know why I used it at all. I never use oil when making pancakes. But now I know. Btw, blueberries work very well with this too. I had some frozen blueberries that needed some lovin' and this recipe definitely hit that spot. Thanks for sharing this, I am now very fond.

Carrots 'n' Celery with Pecans

I love all these ingredients but (I am so sorry!) this did nothing for any of us tonight. I am quite disappointed too because I love side dishes using pecans AND we used vegetables from our garden. Oh well, it happens.

Flax Seed Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2010
I wish we could give 1/2 stars because 3 seems too low and 4 seems a little too much. My boyfriend didn't eat a second bite and that is rare because he's usually easy to please. Healthy or not, he's usually easy to please. It didn't sit as well with him as it did me, I enjoyed this recipe. Yeah, it's MOIST (maybe too moist) and dense, rather heavy. It's far from seeming "sin free" to me, lol. I drove up half the loaf to my mother in Indi this morning and she liked it. And she's not one to fib. I am not sure I'll make it again seeing how I'll be the only one eating it. There's too much going on in this recipe if you ask me. The ingredient list never stops and as I said, it's heavy. At any rate, it was fun venturing, thanks Janice.

Whole Wheat Blueberry Pancakes

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2010
First time making homemade pancakes & I'm pleased I went with this recipe. Very nice indeed. A little tough around the edges but the taste made up for it. Great tasting, these will remain in my recipe box. Thanks brossettelewis. UPDATE: August 1, 2010....this is now my go-to recipe for home made pancakes. I've been making them with & without the blueberries as well as strawberries too. I've also been adding a tablespoon or two of Flax Seed. Delicious, I'll never buy boxed pancakes again. To the folk who think these are too heavy or thick...add more milk like the recipe suggests. And don't forget things are going to be heavier with whole wheat flour. Personally I think these are 5 star pancakes. Thanks again.
