Blueberry Oat Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2011
I wanted to make blueberry muffins today, but most recipes on this site calls for milk, and I didn't have any. So I was glad to find this! The muffin wasn't too sweet, which I think is just perfect for breakfast. But I sort of have a sweet tooth, so I prefer a sweeter muffin. I followed the recipe almost exactly...except for the blueberries, because I live in a country where it's almost non-existent. And if there's any, it would cost you an arm and a leg. So I just used the canned filling, and just strained out the jelly. It's probably not as good as using the fresh or frozen ones, but I'm still happy with my breakfast! :) So thank you Mildred for sharing!

Brownie Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2011
This frosting is so easy to make, and tastes so much better than the ones made with powdered sugar. The kids loved them and it was a hit at the office! I've been looking for a recipe like this. Thanks for sharing! :)

Mmm-Mmm Better Brownies

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2011
This is almost similar to the recipe of Best Brownies, also found here at Allrecipes. The only difference is that this uses veg oil instead of melted butter. I personally like the melted butter version, but this is also a winner! :)

Vegan Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2011
I've always wanted to try this recipe but the negative reviews had been holding me back. Today I was craving for some brownies, and found out I didn't have any dairy in the pantry.. no eggs, no butter, no milk. So this is sort of a desperate measure. I tried to follow the recipe to a T but I found out I also did not have enough white sugar! So I used brown sugar instead, halved the recipe, and baked it in an 8x8 inch pan for exactly 25 mins. I did not have high hopes in this recipe because of the previous negative reviews... but surprisingly, it was good! Understandably, it doesn't taste like the usual fudgy and chocolatey brownies made with more conventional ingredients. But it did hold up as one of the best tasting brownies I've had. Even my sister who's not so fond of anything sweet liked it! I love that it wasn't cloyingly sweet. I did crumble just a bit as mentioned on previous reviews but it didn't really bother me. One previous review mentioned it tastes like "burnt toast" -- there will be a similar undertone if you eat the brownie while still warm. This brownie is best at room temperature. This won't be my ultimate favorite brownie recipe, but I can see myself making this again.

Apple Strudel Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
My gosh! These are gone in minutes the moment they came out of the oven. The only thing I changed is I replaced the butter with margarine since that was the only one available in our fridge. The strudel topping was fantastic! I only used one apple, but maybe next time I'll use two. This recipe is a keeper! Thanks for sharing!

Banana Muffins II

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2010
For a healthier twist, I added 1/2 cup of quick cooking oats, and replaced butter with margarine. I also reduced the salt in half. It turned out dense, and it's not too sweet, which is perfect for breakfast. =)

French Toast I

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2008
I did use thin slices of bread, and yes it turned out soggy... but we love them nonetheless! I might've used a little too much of nutmeg because it was very overpowering... will omit it next time. To prevent serious sticking, use a non-stick skillet.

Red Velvet Cake IV

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2008
Not a favorite in our house... The cake lacked a certain flavor, it was just too bland for my taste. And the frosting was a little too salty, I don't know why... probably because of the brand of cream cheese I used.

Wine Cookies (Original Italian)

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2007
I guess because I'm not Italian that I didn't like these cookies. The taste of the red wine was very over powering and yet the cookie itself is bland for my taste. This reminded me of the beer bread recipe I have, but the beer bread, I think, is better.

Amazingly Easy Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: May 31, 2007
I haven't tried irish soda bread before because it's not very common from where I came from. It tasted a little eggy, I'm not sure if that's how it should really taste. It turned out soft and moist, which is nice. But I think it would be better with a little spice in it like raisins and cinnamon. I'll probably try that next time.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: May 17, 2007
Really the best! "Sugar Cookie Icing", also found on this website, was the perfect compliment for this cookie. I've been reading reviews about the dough being sticky. Just make sure the dough was chilled long enough (about an hour or so) before rolling, so it would be easier to handle.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2007
With all the great reviews on this, I'm a bit disappointed with how mine came out... I guess because I didn't follow the recipe to the "t". I substituted butter for shortening so it tasted a little too buttery for me. I also didn't have milk when I made it so I just used water instead. It still looked undone after over 25 mins of baking, and the taste was just off. It wasn't such a big hit in our house. I'll probably make this again but I'll follow the exact recipe next time.

Pan De Sal I

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2007
My first attempt and it was perfect! I was expecting it to be really dense and hard but it came out soft and nice. It tastes a little bland but I think that's how authentic pan de sal should taste like. Perfect with a slice of cheddar cheese -- my all time favorite Filipino breakfast! *JUST A TIP: Make sure that the water is warm to the touch, not boiling hot. Otherwise, the yeast will die & the bread will not rise at all. Thanks for the recipe Michele!

My second attempt on this recipe was far more successful than the first one... I've learned my lessons. I piped roses of pink royal icing directly on chocolate cupcakes, which made a nice contrasting colors. Love it this time!

Chocolate Crinkles II

This turned out perfectly. I loved it! But I have to agree with the other reviews that it didn't yield 6 dozen. I made mine really small and it only went up to 5 dozen. Still loved it though. ;o)

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Nut Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2006
This muffin is pretty good, although I must agree with the previous comments that it's not that chocolatey. It's not that sweet either, but I think the chocolate chips somehow compensated for the lack of sweetness. I like that fact that it's not that moist, otherwise it would taste like cupcakes which I'm not very fond of. I didn't have nuts available but I didn't miss it at all. I'd definitely make this again, but I would probably add more cocoa powder next time.
