Buckeye Balls II

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
These are really good. I used chocolate almond bark instead of the chocolate chipe and shortening. the almond bark gives them a more mild flavor and gives it a little more solid chocolate coating.

Corn Dogs

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2009
I only made 1/2 a recipe because I only made 8 dogs (I still had enough batter left over to make at least one maybe 2 more). Here is what I did for preparation. I set the hot dogs out about 30 minutes early and dried them off. I lightly coated them with flour and then dipped them. I also had made the dipping batter about 1 hour in advance to have it good and cold so that it did not run so freely. I used my deep fryer and left it set on 400 degrees. They had to cook about 4 minutes with me constantly flipping and holding them in position in order to brown them evenly. They came out great. The batter stuck nicely and the flavor was good. I froze one of them just to see how it would turn out. Frozen, they were much like the ones you buy in the store. I microwaved it so it was not crispy, but a toaster oven would have crisped it up nicely. I would probably also add a little extra sugar because I like mine a little sweeter, but everyone else who ate them said they were fine. Honey might also be good in replacement of half of the sugar. They were great though and much cheaper than the store bought ones. I will definitely make them again.

Amazingly Easy Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2009
I was not impressed with this bread. It was very dry and did not have much flavor. I have never made or eaten soda bread before so I am not a good judge as to what it should taste like.

Easy Batter Fruit Cobbler

Reviewed: May 31, 2009
This was a really good recipe. I did use about 2 1/2 cup blackberries and I sprinkled the top with cinnamon sugar mixture as well as sugar. After making it, I realized it was similar to a cobbler also know as a "Lazy Man's Cobbler" that I have made before. It was very good. Don't let the milky batter fool you. It does cook up nicely.

Brownie Caramel Cheesecake

Reviewed: May 28, 2009
This was excellent. I used a jar of Hershey's Caramel topping instead of making my own to make it quicker and easier. I also only cooked the brownie for 20 minutes during the first baking time. Everything came out great. The brownie was chewy but soft and made an excellent crust. The cheese part was wonderful also. My daughter said, "Mom, you gotta keep this recipe." Great recipe and definitely a keeper.

This is an excellent recipe. We have made this several times and love it. It has a great tangy/sweetness. Great for picnics and BBQ's.

Homemade Crispy Seasoned French Fries

Reviewed: May 20, 2009
These were really good. It is more time consuming than regular fries but not too bad. I used my large deep skillet and put about an in ch of oil in the bottom. I dropped the fries in one at a time slowly and was able to get quite a few fries in the skillet at a time. I did have to use a fork to break them up at times in the beginning. I let them fry for about 30 seconds and then stirred them ever so often until they were done. They had a nice thin coating of the batter when they were finished that was crisp and very tasty. They were nice for a change from the regular old fries. Great recipe.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: May 19, 2009
Very good recipe. I only made a half recipe to just try it for the first time. I will definitely make it again. I only had frozen zucchini. I chopped it up in my food processor, and it turned out fine. I used a little bit of ground cloves (about 1/8 tsp. for the half recipe) because I thought it would make it more spicy. It worked well. The smell in the house was wonderful too.

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
This was an excellent recipe. However, it makes a lot of sauce. The listed 4 serving size would be a very large serving. I measured the amount of sauce, and there was about 6 cups of sauce with this recipe. I used about 1/4 cup of sauce on my noodles (1 1/4 cup) and chicken, and it was very saucy. It is a very rich sauce so a little is very filling. I will definitely make this again, but I will make a half recipe. I used reduced fat cream cheese, skim milk, and only 3/4 stick of margarine. It was great.

Egg Casserole

Reviewed: May 17, 2009
This is a very basic casserole with not a lot of the fancy stuff! My family like this and it was easy to make. I followed the directions but made half the recipe and added some milk to the eggs in order to keep them from drying out because we like ours more moist. I let it cook the ten minutes with the foil and then about 20-25 without the foil. It was really good. Thanks for the recipe

Microwave Popcorn

Reviewed: May 10, 2009
This was awesome. It worked perfectly. I tried it without any oil and it popped great too. It tasted just like the "healthy" light popcorn you buy in the store. I sprayed it with cooking spray in the bag. Thanks

Famous Butter Chicken

Reviewed: May 10, 2009
This was a wonderful recipe. While I was preparing it, I was very tempted to add to it because I thought it would not have enough flavor. However, I was wrong. It did need a little more salt added, but that was probably because I did not use the amount of butter they said. I sprayed my pan with cooking spray and just used about 1/4 of a cup of butter. There was plenty of butter to give it the crispness. I also turned the chicken half way through the cooking process. My husband thought it was really good and a definite keeper. Thanks for the recipe!

Kristin's Fudgy Brownies

Reviewed: May 4, 2009
These were alright as far as brownies. Mine seemed to be "cakey", but it might have been my fault. Instead of putting 1 cup of chocolate chips in it, I just sprinkled some on the top of half of the pan because I was afraid it would be to chocolaty for us. I had recently mad another recipe that was almost bitter chocolate flavor. I would definitely put in the chocolate chips if I were to try it again because I think they need the extra "chocolaty moisture." They did have a good flavor though...thanks Kristin.

Fortune Cookies I

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2009
The recipe was good, but it was a little difficult. I added butter because I didn't think that it was liquidy enough and had read the other reviews. Next time, I will make the recipe as is before thinking that it might be not runny enough because with the added butter more fried looking than fortune cookie looking. My family loved the flavor though. You do have to be quick to fold them, and I agree not to make more than two or three at a time. My 8 year old daughter was able to hellp me though and that was fun. My husband said they reminded him of the waffle cones that you get at a fair.

Awesome Egg Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2009
Excellent! They tasted wonderful. There are some pre-made egg rolls that I always buy at Walmart in the deli department. These were as good as those. I made with chicken instead of the shrimp. I also used extra onion powder for flavor. I left out the bean sprouts. I will definitely make them again.

Grilled Beef Gyros

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2009
This recipe was pretty good. However, it did not take very authentic Greek gyro to me. My kids did really like it because it had more of a sweet mild flavor that what we have made in the past. To me, it tasted more along the lines of a good fajita meat recipe. We did not grill it so maybe that was the difference. We pan fried it. I will use the recipe again, but probably not the "gyro" expectations. thanks for the recipe!

Tzatziki Sauce (Yogurt and Cucumber Dip)

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2009
This is great! I did have to leave out the dill and mint because I did not have any, and I added about 3 Tbsp. of sour cream. I would suggest to sqeeze and drain your cucumbers because the first time I made tzatziki (from another recipe), it was watery. When I found the recipe on this site, I read some of the comments and drained the cucumber. I did not drain the yogurt because I did not have any cheese cloth. As soon as everything was mixed together, I immediately dipped in the pita bread and the taste was marvelous.

Seven Spiced Shark Steaks

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
I had never made shark before this. The recipe was great. It was very strong in flavor though. I actually marinated it in a bag with double the soy and Worchestershire sauce. I added about 1/2 cup water to the marinade. I let it soak for about 3 hours. The spice seemed to be very thick still so I wiped off the steaks with a paper towel. They still had lots of seasoning flavor so I might either not marinate them as long next time or even cut down on the seasoning in some way. I would be interested to try these on steaks or chicken. It is similar to the marinade that I usually use for my steaks. Great recipe!

Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
My daughter and I truly enjoyed this, but my husband did say it still had "to lentilly" of flavor, and he just doesn't care for lentils. I did put in chicken bullion (in the water) and I did not add the spinach. I also used lemon juice instead of vinegar. I needed to add about an extra cup of water to the pot because the water cooked out, and it was beginning to stick. Overall, if you like lentils, this is great. We also fried some sausage (just regular breakfast saugsage) to have on the side for whoever wanted to add it to the soup. It was great. We had Monterrey Jack cheese instead of the suggested (reviews) parmesean. The cheese was a good addition.

Fruit Dip VI

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2009
My kids loved this recipe. We cut up some apples the first time we made it and it was gone in no time. We only made a half recipe. I just made it again and we ate the dip with apples and strawberries. My daughter really liked the strawberries in the dip, too!
