Chinese Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2015
Great and simple. If you like more sauce to go over your rice like I do, double all of the sauce ingredients EXCEPT the cornstarch. Turned out great.

Mallow-Pecan Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2010
For me these flavors did not mesh well at all. I know it is a sweet and savory dish, but the filling was too sweet and I did not like the texture of the crackers. The squash was too bland and the filling flavor did not blend with the squash flavors, if that makes sense. I think maybe using miniature pumpkins and a sweet potato pie topping as a filling would be delicious. I did try to salvage this by removing the filling and then scooping out the squash to eat with salt and pepper.

Easy Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2009
This recipe takes FOREVER to actually bake and become firm. It had to stay in the oven for well over an hour. I don't know what the problem was because I followed the recipe exactly. It tasted fine once I took it out of the oven, thought it is a bit bland. I even gave up and just took it out even though it was not totally firm, but everything was done. I would NOT recommend this recipe because it takes so long and the taste is not worth the effort.

Potato Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2014
Like many reviewers said, this is a great base recipe. I made it as is but I think I would definitely try some different spices next time. I wasn't crazy about the garlic powder with this. It was a bit overpowering I think. I might add in sautéed onions next time with a little Italian seasoning.

Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

DELICIOUS!! Follow exactly for excellent cookies that the entire family will enjoy. Not too chocolatey and just the right amount of oatmeal. Chewy and not crispy so it's just about perfect in my book!

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2010
I'm breaking with most everyone else and giving this 4 stars because it is too spicy for me. I think maybe the ginger and nutmeg are just too much for me so I might decrease those if I make this again. Also, I followed other suggestions and did 1/2 cup of oil and 1/2 cup of applesauce and it worked perfectly. It is nice and moist. I also added chocolate chips as another reviewer suggested, which I would NOT recommend doing, as the bread is fine by itself. I couldn't imagine when chocolate chips would make something worse, but they do in this case. I can taste the bread by itself in some bites and it is better without them, but still just too spicy for me. So I would recommend cutting the spice measurements in half if you're like me and don't want it so spicy.

Fruit Pizza with White Chocolate

Reviewed: May 29, 2010
This dessert was great! One tip: After I washed my fruit I dried it on paper towels and then sliced it and let it sit out to dry a bit before decorating so the liquid from the fruit didn't run. I did need to use a little more cream than called for because the chocolate was really thick as it melted. I did fold in about 1/4 cup cool whip as others recommended and the texture was great. I also used store bought sugar cookie dough and it worked perfectly and took a lot less time!. I just rolled it out on the pan and had to cook it longer than the package directions called for but I just added a couple minutes at a time after cooking for 10 minutes up to about 16 minutes. It came out great. Soft in the middle and crispy edges. I also left off the glaze because we had company coming and I just didn't have the time but it was still delicious! Our guests loved it and couldn't believe it wasn't store bought. This dessert would be perfect for showers as well! Beautiful and delicious.

Seven Layer Taco Dip

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2008
This was a good recipe. It is very versatile and you can add or delete ingredients as you like. I made it for a party and it was a hit. One tip, though, if you want to make it the night before it is easy to do except for the topping. The lettuce wilted and absorbed the salsa and didn't look quite as pretty but it still tasted good. Just put all the other ingredients in the dish and have your chopping done and add the lettuce, green peppers, and olives right before you serve it. Easy and pretty.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2015
If you want normal sized muffins it makes about 11 1/2 muffins, and you should decrease the cooking time to about 18 minutes. The streusel topping was delicious too. Just make sure your butter is cold when you put it in to the sugar mixture and cut it in with a pastry cutter. A fork won't really do the job very well with cold butter, but it melts beautifully on top of the muffins. I will use this blueberry muffin recipe from now on!

Pumpkin Cranberry Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2011
Very yummy and easy to make. My 4 year old daughter helped and had a blast. I like that it made 2 loaves, as we were able to give one to our neighbors, but it would also be good for freezing. I think it would make a good gift for neighbors/friends at Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Easy OREO Truffles

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2010
DELICIOUS!! These are what oreos should taste like! They are a bit dangerous to have in the house, though, since they are just the perfect 2-bite size. I did omit the chocolate on the outside, so I guess technically they are not truffles, but I just rolled them into balls, refrigerated them and then rolled them in sugar. They look pretty with the white sugar on them and it was SUPER easy with no chocolate mess!

Apple Crisp IV

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2010
I would give this 2 1/2 stars. It was very dry and the topping just clumped up. The bottom was better because the apples moistened it. What I would suggest is maybe tossing the apples in an apple cider or apple juice and sprinkling it with cinnamon sugar before putting them in, as it could be a little sweeter for my taste. There also has to be some way of keeping the topping from clumping, but it did not spread out very well over the apples and as a result tasted pretty much like flour.

Indoor S'mores

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2010
This tastes great! The only thing I did differently was to add half the mmallows to the cereal and melt half with the chocolate. The chocolate mixture was still warm enough to make the unmelted ones gooey and chewy and add white swirls to the bars. The only thing I might do differently is add a bit more cereal next time. I couldn't taste the "graham cracker" enough, but still delicious!

Bavarian Apple Torte

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2009
This recipe was not as good as I hoped. I did follow the recipe exactly except I precooked the apples in the microwave for about 3 minutes like other reviewers suggested and they turned out great. The filling, however, was the problem for me. It probably should only have one egg or one egg plus an egg white. The filling had a very eggy taste that was not appealing for me. I don't think I'll try this recipe again because of that. If you do make this recipe consider cutting down the egg or substituting it altogether. The dessert was beautiful, though, so I had high hopes for the flavor. Texture was good, just way too eggy as written.

Awesome Honey Pecan Pork Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2007
The flavor of these was great but I overcooked the honey mixture a bit, but the recipe warns about that! I think I will try these again and not cook the honey and pecans too long. This would be great for chicken too!

Fiesta Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2006
This recipe tasted great. I followed the advice of a few others and used yellow and red bell peppers instead of green. I also cooked my ground beef before baking it. I also did not seem to need the egg. It did not hold anything together for me and it just seemed like there was a bit of cooked egge every few bites or so, but still very tasty.

One Minute Chocolate Icing

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2010
Edible glue! It really is delicious, but man is it messy! It definitely needs to be the right consistency before pouring on the cake. This just soaked into the cake and it didn't look like it was iced. I also had to add leftover "set" icing onto the cake before eating. I've made this several times and only once did it turn out good. The one time it turned out well, I used slightly more milk and let it completely set to "icing" texture and kept it in an airtight container at room temperature and it was great. I used it with the Black Magic Cake from this site and they work well together. Just be prepared to let your icing sit before pouring it on the cake, or use it to spread onto cupcakes.

Brooklyn Girl's Penne Arrabiata

Reviewed: May 29, 2010
I'm giving this one 4 stars just because it wasn't quite thick enough for me. I made this recipe by the directions except for the chicken. I just breaded chicken breasts with Italian seasoned bread crumbs and an egg and baked them at 400 for 30 mins. They were great and my guests could cut and add to the pasta as they liked. The sauce was thin even with just the pasta and would have been really too thin with the chicken added in. I added some parmesan cheese to melt after adding the pasta and that helped somewhat with the thickness. Maybe another 1/2 can or so of tomatoes DRAINED would help along with some tomato paste to thicken it up. Otherwise the flavor was good.

Apple Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
I would suggest cutting the apples into chunks and then a cup would be fine, but I used 2 cups of finely diced apples. I also did not have an egg once I started making these and I substituted 2 tbsp. of applesauce and the muffins still turned out great. They are moist, but I don't like mine dry.
