About this Cook
teacher, recently married, moved to England from the US in January.
My favorite things to cook
Although I am not a vegetarian, I love to experiment with pastas and vegetables. I love to combine bright colors and textures. Since a recent trip to Greece, I have been trying my hand at that--with some good results. I love the fresh, simple ingredients, and the wonderful flavors!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Grandma is a fantastic cook, with one major fault: she never made enough stuffing on Thanksgiving! Mom is a great baker, especially cookies and sweet breads.
My cooking triumphs
Best chicken corn chowder in the world--recipe to be posted soon, I promise! Awesome cheesecakes!
My cooking tragedies
A three-layer cranberry cake made at the last minute (for the first time--big mistake) for a family do. It fell, I was late, and they ate without me. : )

Basic British Scones
These were okay. I think that with some tweaking, they could be better. I would make them again, but next time I would make a double recipe, roll the dough a little thicker, and use a bigger cutter to yield larger scones. I would also add a little more sugar.

Mushroom Lentil Barley Stew
This is excellent! I made just a few minor alterations--I used all button mushrooms, as I had no shiitakes on hand. I also used one whole chopped onion instead of dried onion flakes, and cut the pepper in half. Next time I will add a little more broth, as the stew turned out really thick due to most of the liquid being absorbed. I will definitely make this again! Very hearty and very healthy.

Jo Jo's Favorite Banana Muffins
Excellent muffins, with a wonderful banana flavor. I will make these again. I do, however, agree with the reviewer who suggested reducing the baking time. These are a keeper!
