Blooming Onion

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2008
Flavor 5 stars! Ease of preparation 3 stars. (ie: only 4 star recipe) the dipping sauce was great after I too added a couple splashes of liquid smoke and also a tbsp of prepared horseradish as the taste before the real horseradish tasted all too much like mayo. Maybe next time I'll just replace the creamed horseradish with prepared all the way!!! Love the heat of horseradish though! The onion, lol, cut it in petals as it fell apart trying to bloom it. The batter double dipping was very messy. this is definately a recipe you must dip one petal at a time and likely will need double flour mixture to get a good double dip as I ran out and ended up with lots of gooey messy batter. So extra flour mix could've fixed that. Dip was great! Breading was great flavor too!

Asian Sugar Snap Pea Appetizer

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2008
GREAT RECIPE! I used only 8 oz peas. I also did not use the Garlic olive oil....replaced it with 1 clove minced garlic and used EVOO in place and then drizzled. Also didnt have sesame seeds on hand. Still turned out perfect! Im sure the seeds kick it up a notch but was still great. Going in my recipe box definately!

Firecracker Grilled Alaska Salmon

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2008
Just got finished with dinner. Made the marinade last night which took all of 5 minutes. Ina small bowl, stored in refrigerator overnight. This morning at 10 am I poured marinade over the salmon and put in fridge till 430. I then cooked it on 400 20 minutes and broiled 3-5 minutes to slightly brown top. The only thing I did differently is used EVOO instead of peanut oil and 2 tsp chives instead of green onions.........just substitutes as I didn't have other ingredients. Served this with mexican corn, mexican rice and Asian sugar snap peas from this site. WENT OVER GREAT! EVERYONE LOVED IT!! I should've used more salmon as they fought for the last piece! KUDOS AND THANKS!!

Oven Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2008
I cooked this in the crockpot. Followed recipe, but replaced vermouth with 2 cans beef broth. WE LIKE A LOT OF GRAVY! I added potatoes, carrots, 1 large sliced onion and cooked for 4 hours on high and then turned to low for 3 hours more. Served with rolls. Very good! Oh, also put in 2 tbsp red wine vinegar and also added seasoned salt and garlic powder to flour mixture. And used an entire 1 oz pkg dry onion soup.

Bryan's Sweet and Hot Tomato Pasta Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2008
I used 1 TBSP crushed red pepper. WOW!!!!!!! TOO MUCH!!!! I think the brown sugar needs to be only 1/3 cup as it was very sweet. Also, I added 1/2 tsp each of parsley and oregano. I used garlic powder instead of celery salt as well. When my husband tasted it, his words were WOW! He loved it, then again....he loves HOT sauces! He said it was better than any restaurant sauce he ever had!

Bananas Foster II

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2008
Great recipe! I put the rum in the skillet, caught it on fire with a match and blew it out after about 35 seconds. I then added the rest of the ingredients. I don't think it is too much rum or sugar, maybe I will use light brown sugar next time though. This would be great for 6 servings as the bananas are so sweet, you don't need much per serving of ice cream. I would recommend 3 scoops French vanilla ice cream and 1 large scoop of bananas on top. Not much bananas needed for the ice cream ratio though. It is plenty sweet to get away with this serving amount per person.

Pork Tenderloin with Herb Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2008
I used a 2 lb pork loin. It took 1 hour on the grill. I used half the sauce for marinade for 2 hours and the other half I also added a bit of brown sugar and used cornstarch mixed w cold water to thicken it and when pork was done, I sliced it.into 1/2 inch slices and brushed the thickened sauce on each one, sprinkled with parsley and layered on a serving tray. Served it with a spinach salad with warm bacon dressing and some Pasta Roni creamy herb noodles. The meat was very tender, (surprisingly) and also mildly juicy. The flavor was nice, not too strong or too mild. Will likely make again....just takes a lot logner to cook than recipe stated. Thanks!

Mock Lobster

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2008
I don't eat lobster myself. Never tried it. But my husband loves lobster! He said this is amazingly like lobster.....an 8 on a 10 scale! This is a very delicious recipe! I only marinated 2 hours. I sprinkled with old bay before grilling as another review recommended. I used Smart Balance low sodium butter for dipping. I would give this 6 stars if I could! KUDOS! May try a longer marindade just for giggles next time and see what happens on te flavor. But 2 hours was wonderful! Very moist and tender and juicy all at the same time!!!

Whiskey-Marinated Steak

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2008
This was overkill on the whiskey. Marinated for 24 hours. Far too much flavor. I think my previous version of worcestershire sauce and Lawrys is what Im gonna stick with.

Orange Herb Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2008
After buying all the ingredients, this recipe wasn't worth the cost or effort. I'm not one who likes carving a cooked chicken either though. The taste was ok, definately better than Walmarts rottiserrie chicken, just very expensive and time consuming.

Doreen's Ham Slices on the Grill

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2008
WOW!!! Never would've thought to put horseradish on ham steaks. I didn't have lemon juice on hand. Only had a half of a lemon. So I squeezed out all the juice I could, which wasn't much. I used Kraft prepared horseradish, which I found near the cottage cheese at Walmart. Anyhow, I would maybe cut back the brown sugar to only 3/4 cup. But, too bad this is too expensive to make for a potluck. This is WONDERFUL!

Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2008
I followed this recipe exactly except I omitted tomatoes and mushrooms and OOPS forgot the sour cream. This was horrible. I threw out the leftovers as noone liked it. The betty crocker version is much better! The recipe cooked up perfectly, but the flavor was just not what I expect in a 5 star recipe. Will not cook this again. Im sorry.
