When my husband and I downsized from a family home to a town house I had to give away a few hundred cook books. Some of them were 60 to 100 years old. One that I kept is titled: DAME CURTSEY'S BOOK OF SALADS, SANDWICHES AND BEVERAGES. It was published in 1915. The recipe for June 8th on my website is for a cheese salad that I adapted from that cook book. I use the cheese salad as a spread for appetizer sandwiches. I love keeping the really old recipes alive. They frequently have no measurements or don't indicate number of servings. I usually have to adapt them for modern ingredients and cooking techniques. I just hate to see the flavors of yesteryear disappear. Some are good riddance but this little salad is a gem. Happy Cooking! CJ

It must have been really hard choosing which ones to let go. And what fun, adapting old recipes to modern usage (ha ha, only a foodie would find that 'fun').

I have a collection of Vintage books.. some passed down from family, some I've searched for in antique shops, garage sales, etc. Many of them are quite valuable these days. If you like this sort of thing, you should check out the Brass Sisters. It's all they do.. collect old recipes and adapt them to modern cooking methods. They have several cookbooks with lots of wonderful heirloom recipes.

Winning a runner up prize for my lasagne recipe when I worked for the Nestle corporation. (I was a part time R&D assistant for the Willy Wonka Candy Factory)
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make sweet and sour shrimp with deep fried shrimp. Coating came off the shrimp when I put the sauce on. My familiy refused to eat it. We were short of money then and it hurt to waste the food and then go get MacDonald's for dinner.
