Donut Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2012
I just love this recipe. It makes a lot. Super easy to throw together (no bringing out the big mixer ) and easy follow. I cut the nutmeg down to just 1/4 t or even less, and up the vanilla a tad. Dipping in butter and rolling in the cinn/sugar is a MUST ! Yum !!

Old-Fashioned Vanilla Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2012
I just made this recipe tonight, and I have to say that I am pleased beyond words. Creamy, sweet, light and delicious. I have to be honest, though, and say I used 1/2 T more sugar and I used half n half for the milk. Delicious !

Lemon Blueberry Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2011
This is wonderful ! Soft crumb, light and full of flavor. I used softened butter and creamed with sugar and lemon. Following the rest of the directions using fresh lemon and zest from only 1 very large lemon. I also used 2 T. lemon, some zest and powder sugar for a glaze and mixed the 1 1/4 c blueberries in a couple of Tbls of flour before mixing them in. Baked abt 70 min. Perfect. I will make this again and again. It's a keeper!

Potato Chips

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2011
I think these were fantastic ! A tasty, quick and easy way to have chips without all of the additions of chemicals from commercial products. Watch them carefully, and do not overlap them; season with different herbs and your guests will think you a genius ! Using a spray atomizer makes things easy, and you can control the amt of oil better. I tried putting oil in a baggie as another reviewer suggested, and that just left them way too oily and way to messy.

Alyson's Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2011
This is the best broccoli salad on this site! I love all the ingredients, and it is a smashing hit whenever I make it. Even on those cold winter days when I want something crunchy and healthy and I'm sick of broccoli that is steamed or stirfried, this is a homerun. Thanks Alyson for sharing

Gourmet Root Beer Float

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2011
A trick I discovered by accident is to pour half of the liquid into the glass, stir like crazy to get most of the fizz out, add the rest of the liquid, then ice cream. You can have MORE ice cream and less foaming over which is the down side of a 'float'. Enjoy !!

Broccoli Beef I

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2008
I made this tonight and even though I made alot of changes, it still left me feeling 'unsatisfied'. It really is lacking that 'something'. I followed the basic recipe, but added 1 chopped onion, 1 sliced carrot, pea pods, mushrooms,3 tsp minced garlic and ground ginger since fresh was unavailable at my super. Kept the same amt of liquid and added more soy sauce. I marinated the beef strips in egg white and soy sauce and lots of garlic, yet still it wasn't enough--and I really don't like 'hot and spicy' so even for my mild tastes this lacks something. It's pretty and has potential, so maybe I'll work on trying to perfect this one. Red pepper flakes might help or oyster sauce.

Eggnog I

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2007
This recipe is so good! Adding a bit of pumpkin spice is needed, though. It isn't as rich nor as thick as commercial ones, but it has a good rich mouth 'feel' and the taste is certainly there. I think if anyone wanted a thicker 'store-bought' version, just use half and half instead of the milk and you are there. It looks beautiful in Christmas glasses with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon, nutmeg and a candy cane stir stick makes even grandpa smile! It was a hit at our home and is going into the 'keeper' file! Thanks

Ranch Burgers

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2007
Sorry, but I made this tonight and my hubby (who eats anything and everything) even commented on how blah they were. The ranch dressing was virtually undetectable. This was disappointing. The crackers were just added filler and calories and did nothing to enhance this at all.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: May 23, 2007
These were wonderful. Slightly crunchy but light and fluffy inside with a hint of sweetness. I made these plain and served them with butter and jam, halved strawberries and whipped cream, and half the batch was with choco chips. Hubby was sooo happy! Half a batch was more than enough for the two of us--as you can see, I did plenty with them!

Cornbread Muffins I

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2007
Well, I have to say that today I tried two different recipes and this one is a keeper! No baking powder aftertaste, not crumbly, sweet but not too sweet. I made half the batch with corn (from a can) and half without. Both were wonderful. I am serving chowder for a ladies luncheon in a couple of days and will use this good recipe for delicious muffins. I know it will be a hit! Thanks
