Russian Mushroom and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2010
Good comfort food for this cold weather! Added 1 chopped onion and 1 minced clove of garlic to the carrots and leeks. Reduced salt to 1 tsp and used heavy cream instead of half & half because I didn't have any. My 11 month old baby couldn't get enough and even my husband who's not into soups liked it.

Really easy to make. I had added cayenne pepper for a little kick. Next time I will add garlic!

Make Ahead French Toast

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2006
After reading a lot of the reviews, I opted to make only half of the liquid portion and used an entire french baguette...worked out perfectly, with nothing to throw away. My husband was really skeptical at first, but luckily he promised to try...Well, he ate 3 servings! Also note, I did not sprinkle cinnamon and I used slivered almonds instead of pecans. So they did not taste like cinnamon buns to me. Great hit! Will definitely try this for larger family gatherings.

Mom's Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2006
Fantastic, moist, not too sweet and smells absolutely wonderful. Dusting it lightly with powdered sugar is also fine, so icing wasn't so important to us (less fat/calories). My family loves this cake, so it's a definite keeper. BTW, for those Americans who live in Germany: the closest I can get to having American all-purpose flour is sifting together 1 cup 405 flour and 1 cup 550 flour (or a 50/50 ratio for other recipes).
