Warm Jalapeno Cheese Dip

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2006
I am looking for the cheese dip served in Mexican restaurants throughout the southeast. This is NOT IT. The texture was funny (I could "feel" the flour) and the spice totally overpowered the cheese. Maybe I would have been less disappointed if I wasn't trying to find a particular result.

Magic Walnut Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2006
I made 2/3 of a batch (I only had 1 c. of walnuts). DISASTER. I ended up with three sandwiches. The first batch I guess I didn't cook or didn't cool long enough. I ended up with a huge pile of cookie mush while trying to scrap them off the Silpat. The second batch I cooked for 15-20 mins. and this was the batch that actually was ok. I had to let them cool for a while and then carefully pull them off of my Silpat with my fingers (NO SPATULAS, they just make a mess). So, I thought I'd try to spray my Silpats with some Pam. That resulted in two batches of extremely flat, burned, unicookies with major holes. Not salvageable. We did enjoy the three cookies we could eat, but not worth an expensive bag of walnuts.

Caramel Crunch Apple Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2007
I originally rated this poorly, but I decided that the pie gets much better after a bit of a sit. I had to pour a large amount of liquid off of the pie before adding the caramel sauce, and the sauce was very runny, but after letting the pie sit for a while and reheating in the microwave, it set a little and was very tasty. Straight out of the oven, it's a bit of a mess.

Sunday Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
Rating recipe as it was written. The instructions were impossible to follow because the dough had the texture of a thick soup when it came out of the refrigerator. I had to add at least an additional 3-4 cups of flour to be able to handle it at all. I suppose I could have dropped them with a spoon. I also had to bake them for 20 mins. or so; definitely not 8. It gets 3 stars because of the texture, which was very good. The taste was too sweet for me, but definitely didn't stop me from eating one (or three).

Buttery Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2011
Tasted good, but minus one star because they required 30 mins. to bake, and that was after I bumped up the temp to 425 after 15 mins. and broiled them at the end to hurry it up. They weren't ready for our dinner, but they made a good dessert :)

Fast Apple Rhubarb Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
If I could give it a lower score I would. It was just a heap of cold fruit when it went in and a heap of hot fruit when it came out. Might as well have eaten it raw. There was nothing pie-filling-y about this "pie." The apple rhubarb crumble on this site is much better.
