About this Cook
i've been vegetarian for three and a half years and continue to be amazed at the yummy foods you can find if you step outside your comfort zone a bit. i started really cooking on a regular basis about a year ago. i'm very busy and am way into fast-easy gourmet foods. other non-food related interests of mine are: outdoors, reading, playing trumpet, and learning new things. my favorite place in the world is Madison, WI.
My favorite things to cook
anything stir-fried, i love the smells and sizzling sounds - don't you?
My favorite family cooking traditions
welsch rarbit (sp?) on christmas eve, it's basically just cheese sauce on toast. it's been tradition in my family for 3 generations and to me it symbolizes what i love about family: familiar, cozy ambiance that is relaxed and filled with chaos and love. of course i love the fancy christmas day lunch, too, but welsch rarbit (sp?) is the food served in my fondest memories of holiday meals.
My cooking triumphs
linguini frittata, i don't know where the recipe is now but this is what got me into cooking on a regular basis.
My cooking tragedies
the very first vegetarian thing i ever cooked was some sort of vegan bread from a recipe off the internet. it didn't have any eggs or yeast and was brick hard and pretty nasty tasting - good thing i didn't let that stop me from exploring new recipes, though.
