Cinnamon Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2010
Wow, this was great! First time for cinnamon pie and I loved it! It's amazing how 1 t. of cinnamon can flavor so much pie. Crazy! It really tastes best cooled. Otherwise the texture is can be soupy. I used my 10" fiestaware pie pan and it could have handled another 50%. Next time I'll increase the filling. And there will be a next time! Yum! *Update* My husband said, "This is one of the best pies that I've ever eaten." Keeper!

White Almond Wedding Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
This cake was delicious and received a lot of compliments! We followed the recipe using a Pillsbury mix and added a package of instant vanilla pudding. We only had a 9"x13" pan and it took ~35 minutes to bake. We loved Heidi's frosting: 3 c. confectionary sugar, 1/3 c. butter, 1 t. vanilla, 1/2 t. almond extract and 2 T. milk. Just delicious & we'll definitely make this again! Thanks cupycakesmurf!

Sour Cherry Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
Wow, this was great! I'd never tried tapioca in a pie before but it made for a nice firm pie (when cooled). The tapioca beads were visible but I didn't notice a texture issue (but I like tapioca). Sour cherries weren't available in a can, so I used 6 c. of frozen "pie cherries" and tasted for sweetness. We gave the filling 15 minutes to rest before we put it into the crust&baking. Mm, be sure to try this! Thanks Lisawas!

Cheater Pot Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2010
Four stars as-is, Five stars with changes. It was really tasty! *I added oregano, thyme & rosemary. *I used 4 fresh chicken breasts. I wanted to feed 8 people, so I used a 9"x13" pan with extra veggies and it needed extra liquid. *I made a roux and added ~1 c. broth. Be sure to use low-sodium soups. *The biscuits needed to be cooked separately for 6 minutes. I then inverted them (cooked-side down) and finished on the dish as the recipe says. It turned out great! It might sound like a lot of changes, but they were all very easy and quick. I'll certainly make again. Thanks Melanie!

Thanksgiving Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2010
Mm, thanks Kathryn! This bread is delicious! I followed the directions, but had to improvise with the pumpkin pie spices. It turned out great. I would not make any changes, but could see it tasting good with diced apples or chocolate chips. I doubled the recipe and made (2) 8x4 loaves and (3) mini-loaves. Can't wait to see how it tastes tomorrow.

Turkey Wild Rice Soup II

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2010
Galynn, this is delicious! Wow, we loved it! It used up our leftover turkey and gravy (2.5 c. gravy + 1.5 c. water). It worked great! We used diced carrots and 1/2 c. sour cream in place of the half and half. Such a forgiving, flexible recipe. The almond flavor wasn't very noticeable, but it gave a nice texture to the soup. Served it with fresh bread. Mmm, can't wait for the leftovers tomorrow!

Delicious and a great, versatile side dish. I've been making this recipe for years out of our church cookbook. We include a sprinkling of cinnamon for extra flavor. Love it! Thanks Jean!

This is delicious! I made it this morning and loved it! I doubled it (9x13 pan) and omitted the walnuts. I added some turbinado sugar to the top for decoration. Thanks Jean!

Gourmet Mushroom Risotto

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
Myleen this was delicious! Thank you for sharing it! We made no changes and absolutely loved it. It was amazing. And it was even better on Day Two, if that's even possible. We served it with a rotisserie chicken. Divine!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2010
This was delicious! And it was healthy, so easy and pretty cheap. Thank you Ellie11! We added diced carrots and served it with fresh bread. If you allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes, the soup will thicken. It reheated really well, too. YUM!

Halloween Eye of Newt

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2010
Fun and easy... The color's a bit off, I used ~6 drops of green food coloring. To get blood-shot eyes, dip a sharp knife tip into red food coloring. Lightly slit the egg white in little jagged lines. If you hold the slit slightly open, the food dye will seep in and give a more authentic, fine color. Thanks Angela!

Scalloped Potatoes and Onions

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
This was good and certainly light! It didn't have the same creamy/cheesy flavor I usually look for. It's much healthier scalloped potatoes and onions than we normally eat. Don't know if we'll have it again though. Directions are spot-on!

Pumpkin Turkey Chili

Probably 3-4 Stars without changes. 5 Stars using babybunnies' suggestions. This was delicious! I loved how warm and filling it was while still tasting light and flavorful. I'll be making this a lot! The corn and black beans were very important to round out the flavors. Thanks Someoneswt!

Chicken Makhani (Indian Butter Chicken)

4.5 stars. Yum! Very tasty and flavorful! Couldn't find ginger-garlic paste, so I used 1.5 t. of ginger paste and 1.5 t. of garlic paste. Really wish we had naan on hand to get more of the sauce... Thanks!

Apple-Stuffed Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2010
This was very good! And very easy. We used 1 apple, 1 pear for a bit of variety. I microwaved them (cut-side down) for 10 minutes and then baked (filled) for 30 minutes. It was great with our homemade bratwurst!

Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2010
Mmm, I want another piece! This was good, but I'm not sure where the "pudding" comes in. I expected a soft, soupy lower layer but this was a date cake. Very quick & easy to make. The cake was good on its own, but with a little drizzle of caramel, it was divine. We topped with whipped cream to cut the caramel's sweetness. Note: I would not bake with the caramel sauce poured overtop, that would be way too sweet. Thanks Maree!

Simple Whole Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2010
Very simple and very tasty! Though the splattering juices at 500 destroyed my oven. :) The spices were unusual and even my picky eaters loved it. I (1) doubled the spices (except the salt) and (2) added half an onion inside. It was done after an hour. We roasted 2 of them and I'm glad we did! Now I have enough meat for a week and enough bones to make stock. Thank you Indriani!
