Chai Tea Mix

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2012
I think non-dairy creamer is creepy so I make this variant of chai mix. I give my version 5 stars! 1 packet dry milk powder (about 1 1/4 cup) 2 1/2 cups white sugar 1 2/3 cups unsweetened decaf instant tea (Nestea) 2 t ginger 2 t cinnamon 1 t cloves 3/4 t cardamom (can skip if too expensive- still tastes good without cardamom) 1 t nutmeg 1 t allspice 1/4 t white pepper Blend in a food processor. To serve stir 2-3 heaping tablespoons into warmed MILK. (Not water!) Get the milk steaming but do not boil. (About 2 min in the microwave for a big 16 oz mug). Without the vanilla it's less sweet - the closest commercial products to the resulting flavor are Oregon Chai's Not-So-Sweet chai mix, or Trader Joe's chai mix.

Baked Doughnuts

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2011
I'm searching for the right recipe to use for my Bella Cucina electric mini doughnut maker - this is the best I've found so far (the one with flaxseed also isn't bad). These cake doughnuts aren't very sweet, so they can take glazes or cinnamon sugar toppings. They taste healthier than they really are, though.

Homemade Flaxseed Donuts

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2011
I made these with an electric mini doughnut griddle instead of frying, so that probably changes the taste. Made this way, these donuts definitely tasted healthy, so I wouldn't recommend them to Krispy Kreme fans without heavy frosting. If you're looking for a less sweet doughnut, these work well after a roll in 1:3 cinnamon sugar.

Caribbean Crabmeat Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2006
I made this with real crabmeat instead of imitation, skipped the jalepeno and added extra lime zest, and loved the result. Definitely add oil to the pasta water to keep it from sticking, as well as rinsing pasta with cold water afterward. Also a very ripe mango is key. You should feel the mango give under the peel when you buy it, and after you cut the mango into big pieces, the peel should come off relatively easily under your fingers.
