Wisconsin Native's Beer Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2011
Absolutely delicious. I cooked the veggies in butter instead of simmering in broth. I also used a mix of colby jack, a bit of leftover Velveeta from a previous meal, and Pinconning. Used Guinness beer. This is my go-to beer cheese soup recipe.

Grandma's Gingerbread Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2010
Delicious gingerbread taste. Smelled and tasted amazing. The only reason that this is not a 5 star recipe is because they came out a little flat. I like my pancakes a little fluffier. I'll keep the spices, vanilla and molasses and try to alter the recipe for a fluffier result next time. Will definitely keep working on this recipe though, because it was a hit with my ginger-living husband!

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2010
Absolute perfection. This is my go to pancake recipe now. I never like buying buttermilk (never finish the container), so I like this technique of "souring" the milk. I used skim and they tasted great! Extremely fluffy with an excellent buttery taste, according to my guests.

The Best Meatballs You'll Ever Have

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2010
I made these for my husband, to put in spaghetti with marinara sauce. He rated them 3 stars, but they smelled 4 star to me. I didn't taste them though, so we'll go with his rating. Very easy to make. I substitute ground vension, which worked well. Using crushed croutons is key. I could tell they added more flavor than substituting bread crumbs. I chose to bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes and they were perfect!!

The Best Bean and Ham Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2010
This is the absolute PERFECT ham and bean soup recipe. I've made a few times and like some of my tweaks. I use a 24 oz. bean mixture. Gourmet grocery stores are the best place to find these. Highly recommend using a ham bone from a honey baked ham. I use 2-8 oz. packages of pre-cubed ham. I also alter the liquid in the recipe in order to make this a slow cooker meal. I only use 2 cups of veggie broth and 3 cups of chicken broth. I cook on LOW in a large slow cooker for 8 hours, removing the ham bone after 6 hours. This makes a hearty Sunday meal (complete with corn bread) and plenty of leftovers for the week.

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2009
I've made these Granola Bars many, many times for my husband. I only use 1/4 cup brown sugar and I replace half of the oil with unsweetened applesauce. Instead of raisins, I've used a wide variety of dried fruits, nuts and seeds. I just make sure that they add up to 1 cup. Very solid recipe.

Snickerdoodles III

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2009
This is now my go-to Snickerdoodle recipe. Wonderful flavor. Puffed up during baking, producing nice cracks on the top of the cookie. I like my snickerdoodles on the chewier side, and these were it!

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
Perfection! I halved the recipe (changed to 12 servings) and it fit perfectly in a 9x5 pan. Replaced 1/4 cup of oil with unsweetened applesauce. Also swapped out 1/2 cup of white sugar for brown sugar. Spices are perfect. Love the spiciness of the cloves. I'm doing Weight Watchers and calculated this with my alterations and if you slice one loaf into 16 slices, it is 4 points each.

My Best Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2008
Wonderful recipe! Made for a group of guys in honor of the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. I added 3 slices of crumbled bacon when I added the vegetables. Used 5 cans of clams, which was perfect. Didn't need to add any water to cook the vegetables.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2008
Amazing! Used cinnamon graham crackers for crust, which was very delicious. My cheesecake cracked in a giant X, but I think it was my fault for overmixing. Taste and texture were perfect. This is my official cheesecake recipe.

Soft Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2008
Yuck! Added 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice and 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, so the flavor of the dough was all right. However, these were gross. Once baked, these "cookies" develop a rubbery outside and doughy, unpleasant inside.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2007
I'm not giving all 5 stars, because this recipe only works when taking other reviewers' suggestions. I only used 1 container of biscuits. Also, I used chicken broth instead of water. Personally chose to use "Healthy Requent" cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soups. Cooked on high for 4.5 hours. Added biscuit doguh 2 hours from the end. With all the changes, came out great! Boyfriend says there was too strong of an onion flavor. Will probably add later in cooking next time and will add celery and carrots.

Blueberry Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2007
Absolutely loved this! I baked in a bundt pan for 50 minutes and it turned out great. Threw away a little of the batter, but could have made a few muffins with it. Made some substitutions for health - replaced 1/2 of oil with no sugar added applesauce, replaced 1/2 the flour with whole wheat flour, only used 1 3/4 cups sugar and 1/4 cup brown sugar. Looks very appetizing with the blueberries. Used fresh. Will definitely make again!

Coconut Custard (Zucchini) Pie

Tasted gross. Perhaps due to baker's error, but I dont' know. Consistency was off as well.

Martian Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2007
Actual batter is kind of bland, although cinnamony. Don't realize it with the chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and oatmeal though! I omitted the walnuts and didn't miss them. Perfect freezer cookie. Zucchini kept the cookie moist and little green flecks visually interesting. I will make again.

Chocolate Cream Pie I

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2007
Absolutely decadent! I used skim milk and lite cool whip topping; other wise, I followed the recipe to a "T". This was my first attempt at chocolate cream pie and I wouldn't make it any other way. I didn't find the chocolate too dark or not sweet enough, as other reviewers suggested. Perfection in a pie shell!

Slow Cooker Venison Roast

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2007
Absolutely delicious meal! This was my first slow cooker meal, cooked in my boyfriend's 6 qt. slow cook. I cooked two 2 lb venison roasts. Followed the recipe with a few alterations: used 2 cloves of garlic instead of garlic salt and added 2 cups of water. In retrospect, would have tasted great with only 1 cup added water. I also tossed in carrots. Ended up cooking on high for about 8 hours. The meat was more than done and wonderfully tender. No knives required! Plan to make this meal over and over again.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Absolutely delicious! Followed the directions exactly with perfect results. Used the tiny bit of broth left in the roaster with the drippings, along with added chicken broth, to make a simple gravy. Can't wait to eat more leftovers!

Pasta Shells Florentine

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2006
I chickened out and used part skim ricotta instead of the cottage cheese. Followed the rest of the recipe exactly. Use a meat spaghetti sauce to satisfy by meat-lovin' boyfriend. Delicious! Enjoyed the leftovers even more.
