I love to bake almost anything, but my speciality is baking and decorating cakes. At 9 I started baking for my family of 8 and each had a different birthday month, so it seemed that I was always in the kitchen baking.
I'm artistic and love to draw and paint with watercolors. I also like photography and play the flute once in a while. I danced ballet for 15 years and was going to go pro, but at that time, dancers were not allowed to have children and I wanted a family some day.
For a while I took flying lessons, but I never got my license...maybe some day!
I have an adult Son in the Marines/DIL and Daugher in the Army and Grand-Children whom all make me proud.
I used to work as a graphic artist and would someday like to go back to that. Now I drive a school bus and compete yearly in the School Bus Road-eo where I take a written test about and rules and regs of the road. A judge follows me as I check out the bus to make sure it's worthy to drive and I drive an obstical course. I won 2.
My favorite things to cook
Almost anything, but I love baking. I'm challenged to bake and decorate a tiered cake the is better than the last one. When Buddy of Carlos' Bakery was asked what cake was his favorite, he responded with something like: it's the next cake that I have yet to make. I couldn't agree more!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I really don't have any cooking traditions, but I do have an authentic Italian sphaghetti sauce recipe that I got from my Mom that I'd like to pass down to my children. They would have to see me make it though because I don't have it written down. I do this by sight, smell, and taste. OK, time for a road trip!
My cooking triumphs
In 2012, I made a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner with all the fix'ns and brought it still hot to the hospital where my Daughter was staying. I also took Muppet cupcakes in December to my Daughter at the hospital, but I can't take credit for making them since I don't make cupcakes well. Weird that I make beautiful tiered cakes, but fail at cupcakes. My Daughter was thrilled at the surprise. She nearly died 3 times with her ulcertive colitis disease. I'm happy to report that she had major surgery to remove her entire colon and is now better and looking great.
My cooking tragedies
I won't get into my cupcakes!
I was making a whipped cream icing for my good friend's Daughter's Comming of Age Ceremony and I just could'nt get it straight. I've made this before with no problems, but I already threw out 2 failed batches. My friend who is my Pastor's wife asked how things were going and I told her my dilemma. She asked if I wanted her to pray for me and I told her that would be terrific. She left and when I made the next batch, it came out perfectly. Don't knock the power of prayer, people, when things turn out badly! Give it a try!
