About this Cook
A 30-something mom of three, I'm currently up to my eyeballs in church activities, homeschooling, and cub scouts. Prior to having children I was a Jr. High science and math teacher - which will explain my reviews.
My favorite things to cook
I love making American style breads. They require very little hands-on time, pack a nutritional wallop, and make the house smell terrific. My cooking is all about technique. I highly recommend Pam Anderson's "How to Cook Without A Book" for any cook who's still tied to a recipe book every night. I also love creating soups and stews with seasonal ingredients. My absolute favorite recipe in the world? Church Supper Chicken from the King Arthur cookbook.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our family has homemade doughnuts, popcorn, apples, and "real" hot chocolate for supper the first night there's still snow on the ground at suppertime. We eat by the light of a milk glass kerosene lamp handed down to my husband by his grandmother.
My cooking triumphs
I've catered 4 weddings now. The most difficult, and rewarding, was a wedding I catered at Musterfield Farm in early October. We served stew out of hollowed out pumpkins along with cinnamon bread sticks, and a buffet of the usual canapes, crudites, and cookies. It probably would have been a little easier if I hadn't been 7 months pregnant at the time!
My cooking tragedies
Where to start? The cookies with a cup of salt that I made when I was nine and brought to a neighbor without tasting them? The first birthday cake I made my boyfriend (now my husband) at 14 that would NOT come out of the pan? Or maybe my first Easter dinner after I was married when I cooked a fully cooked ham at 400 for 4 hours while I was at church and came home to a ham briquette? I love trying new recipes, and have made some real lullapalosers over the years. Tomorrow is another day!

Urban Legend Chocolate Chip Cookies
I replaced the nuts with caramel bits and sprinkled the tops of the dough balls with fine sea salt right before baking. We always underbake these a bit so they have fudgy centers. They are fantastic cookies for shipping since they don't go stale for almost a week.

Vegetable Lo Mein Delight
Very easy and delicious. This is not traditional "fried" restaurant l-mein, but we prefered it to the greasy takeout. I used 12 oz. garden delight pasta from Ronzoni, low salt chix broth and low sodium soy. All of us added a little extra soy while eating. I think next time I'll make 1-1/2 times the sauce recipe.

Texas Chocolate Frosting
Precisely what I was looking for! A soft chocolaty frosting that uses pantry ingredients and goes together in a snap. Consistency is remarkably similar to canned. I added 1/2 teaspoon of instant coffee to round out the flavor, but it was delicious even without it.
