Plain Cake Doughnuts

Reviewed: May 8, 2010
I wont be making this recipe again. Not sure what the difference is, but this recipe was very crumbly and even after experimenting with different cooking times and temperatures, they always came out saturated with oil.I'll still with my old recipe.

Hamburger Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2009
Sooooo friggin' cute! And these didn't taste bad either. I used the keebler grasshoppers for the patty and the canned squirty frosting for the ketchup/mustard. The kids gobbled these up!! BIG hit at the party. Thanks for sharing

Sourdough Starter

Reviewed: May 19, 2009
I made this recipe without modification, then 'fed' the starter once a day. After 8 days, I baked my first loaf (San Fran). There was barely an sour taste to it, so I did more research on sourdoughs. I found out that this recipe is all kinds of doomed. I highly recommend doing the research if you want a successful starter.

Jo's Rosemary Bread

Reviewed: May 19, 2009
I made this with a sourdough starter on bread stone. I spritzed it with olive oil and toped it with course sea salt. The crust was very delicate and the bread had an excellent flavor. I didn't give it five stars because it was too soft.

San Francisco Sourdough Bread

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
This took twice as long to raise as the recipe said it would (maybe my house is too cold?).. The loaf came out beautiful but we hardly tasted the sourdough flavor at all.

Carrot Pineapple Bread

Reviewed: May 6, 2009
I doubled the recipe and got 24 large muffins and 48 mini muffins. I made these for a school function and for gifts. They were definitely moist, but pretty bland. I doubled the carrots and subbed 1/2 applesauce instead of all oil. You could see the carrots, but couldn't taste them or the pineapple. I think most of it's flavor comes from all the vanilla. These also had a very distinct baking soda taste. I think I prefer using a baking powder recipe. I probably won't make them again, but everyone else seemed to think they were ok.

Chai Cupcakes

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2009
I can't fairly rate this recipe because I modified it. I read about the consistency problems that other people had and It just didn't seem quite right to me that there wasn't any eggs. I doubled the recipe, omitted the yogurt completely, added two eggs, another 1/2 tsp of baking powder and then enough extra flour until I got what "I" consider to be "normal" muffin batter consistency. I also boiled the milk with extra chai spices like cardamon, ginger and cinnamon, (plus the tea bags) then strained it. This modification came out nearly perfect!

Easy Devonshire Cream

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2009
This recipe got rave reviews from tons of people. I used it as a base recipe for my cream and tomato tea sandwiches at a brunch and now I've been requested to make this for every event. I did multiply the recipe by 4, add the juice of a fresh squeezed lemon and some dill to taste. It made for heavenly tea sandwiches! Thanks

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2009
I only serve the best to my friends and family... and this is the best! I did a 'test run' bake of these and the only thing I changed was that I added a bit more milk until I got a the consistency that I wanted and then I baked the muffin batter 1/2 way before putting the streusel topping on and baking the rest of the way. These were the BEST blueberry muffins we have had.. ever! Thanks for sharing :-)

Mom's Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2007
There wasn't anything 'crispy' about this recipe. It DID taste good, but it just wasn't the texure I was after. I was hoping for a more traditional crunchy topping, but this one is more like cobbler. It should be called Apple Cobbler.

Scalloped Potatoes I

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2006
This was okay. I guess I'm not big on the idea or taste of using a soup in a scalloped potatoe. I tried it, and I wasnt that impressed.

Fresh Vegetable Stir-Fry with Peppery Orange Beef

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2006
The taste was pretty good, but the level of stress to create this dish was NOT worth it! Sorry, but these directions are VERY hard to follow. I'm still unsure of how many pans we are supposed to end up using here. There was also tons of prep work involved. Go ahead and make this if you WANT to spend all night in the kitchen. Didnt warm up very good as a left over either.

Basil Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2006
My family LOVED this sauce! Personaly, I thought it was a bit mild and will probably add a bit more garlic next time. It was great for the kids though. I served it the 2nd time as left-overs and used cheese tortallini. It does warm up very nicely. I can't wait to add mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and chicken next time.

Broiled Herb Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2006
This couldnt have been any better in my opinion. It got double thumbs up from the whole family (except my 5 year old who is a fruitatarian righ now :-)The chicken breast that I used were still pretty frozen when I put them in on low broil, so I just made more of the herb butter and kept basting it until it was done. VERY YUMMY!! Oh..and the smell was driving everyone to drooling while it was cooking..

Cheesy Italian Tortellini

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2006
This was the first reciepe my family DID NOT like. The only one who "sort of" liked it was my husband, and he'll eat anything! I think it was the canned tomatoes and the sausage that gave it the hard-to-eat flavor.

Slow Cooker Enchiladas

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2006
This suprised my how good it was without actual enchilada sauce. I substituted regular cheese for the peppered cheese to make it more kid friendly, and the kids ate every bite. Next time I'm going to tweek it and do a couple of cans enchilada sauce and shredded chicken.

Neat Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2006
This was the first time I've cooked sloppy Joes, and probably only the 2nd time I've ever eaten them, so I don't have alot to go on. My husband said that compared to the "normal manwich" ones, it's alot more mild and not as sausy. I think it has too much sugar, so I added more Worstishire, katchup and salt to try and counter act all that brown sugar. Over all we got double thumbs up from the whole family. This is a great kid recipe.
