I am an avid hunter and outdoorsman who loves to dabble in cooking. I first began cooking at the age of 7 when my great grandmother let me cook bacon and eggs in an old cast iron skillet. Since then I have continued to cook with cast iron at home and in the field. I am the husband who loves to cook, and loves to experiment with new recipes in the field. If its 20 below zero in the winter I am still outside cooking with my BBQ. I believe there is no such thing as BBQ season. It never ends for me.
My favorite things to cook
Although I love to BBQ, I would say that my passion is for Dutch Oven cooking. I prefer to use wood from a campfire than the traditional coals, and I love to cook at hunting camp. Years of hunting have resulted in more stories about the menu than what was harvested in the field. Dutch oven pizza, potatoes, and “Mountain Man Breakfast’s” have given my camp the energy to walk the hills where Lewis and Clark first explored. At home I love to BBQ ribs and would love to be an expert in cooking seafood.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family cooking tradition is watching football and smelling the smoke permeating from the smoker on the patio. Whether it’s smoked fish or smoked pork, I can still remember the smell of hickory wood on a Sunday afternoon.
My cooking triumphs
Creating the best rib rub in the world, and ensuring the moistest ribs my wife has ever had.
My cooking tragedies
Chicken....you name it. I can not master chicken.
