About this Cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year at Christmas time my mom and great-grandmother would make a huge assorment of fudge and candy to last the season and for the family Christmas party. As a child I remember always being "sick" that day, so I could skip school and go to grandma's with mom. Now as an adult I always manage to get that day off work to continue our fudge tradition and wouldn't miss it for the world.
My cooking tragedies
Grandma and I- several times not paying attention with chocolate on a gas stove...you do the math! I have also burnt frozen pizza before, oh and tomato soup...canned tomato soup. So bad I had to throw out the pan... hey I was just getting used to a gas range!

Apple Bread
Good starter recipe and great warmed up! Added vanilla and should have added some nutmeg and extra cinnamon for more flavor. I would also add a sugar/crumble topping next time. Overall good recipe but will make modifications above next time I make it.

Dumplings
Excellent, easy and ingredients you normally have on hand. I will never use biscuit dough for dumplings again! I doubled the recipe and added about a tablespoon of melted butter to the dough after all was mixed (read somewhere you want "wet" dumpling dough and adding melted butter helps prevent them from being dry) but that was the only change I made. Doubled recipe was perfect amount for a crock pot of chicken and dumplings. Made more bite sized than large. Turned out perfect.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings
VERY good, in fact this was excellent. I will make this often. I had no idea chicken and dumplings could be so easy. I did use a small can of chicken broth and one can of water instead of all water, and did add garlic and some chopped carrots and celery, and only used about 1.5 cans of biscuits and there was still plenty of dumplings. I am excited for the leftovers for lunch! The recipe said 8 servings, although after dinner last night for just hubby and I there is really only 1 good bowl leftover. When I make this again I will double it so we have enough left over for a couple more meals.
