About this Cook
Love to try new recipes... even on company. Grateful to have 3 kids and a hubby who are appreciative of my efforts and are willing to try anything.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
Oyster stew at Christmas, Swedish recipes from my hubby's family, teaching my kids to enjoy baking/cooking.
My cooking tragedies
My very first meal as a new bride. The recipe was supposed to make some sort of multi-bean soup/stew cooked with ham - all day long. When it came time to serve it, I slopped it into his bowl. It was the most unappealing presentation you could imagine... looked more like the dog had climbed up onto the table and been sick or something. Bless his heart, my dear hubby tried eating the stuff. Wretched stuff... also learned later that my husband, while generally please with just about anything, doesn't have a tremendous fondness for beans. Burned the recipe after tossing the beans and eating cereal for dinner!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I
I only found this to be a strong three star recipe. Easy, nothing wrong... just nothing special either.

New Year's Day Black-Eyed Peas
Delish! Used dried onions, as my kids shot all my cooking onions off in the potato canon. Also used chicken broth rather than water... and added some red pepper flakes. I soaked the beans overnight, then rinsed and just covered with chicken broth to cook. Added a little water as needed during cooking. Left out the tomatoes entirely to get a more traditional flavor. But LOVED the dish. Thanks for sharing!
