About this Cook
I'm an ex pat living in the UK, so this site is heaven to me with all the North American recipes. I just love it.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking from scratch. I'm not big on fancy cakes, just yummy, good old fashioned home baking.
My favorite family cooking traditions
This would have to be our family Christmas thingy..Cranberry Pudding with sinfully rich butter sauce.
My cooking triumphs
Probably dearest to my heart is gathering recipes of mine that my girls grew up with and gathering family recipes from far and wide and then making a cookbook for each girl for their weddings.
My cooking tragedies
OMG...2 things come to mind. I saw a recipe for Indonesian spaghetti which used red chilis and peanut butter all whirled in a blender. It was so horrible even the dog ran away from it. The other was recent. An old friend was here and we were having a sort of pot luck meal for her. People love my desserts..or puddings..as they are called here, so I was elected to bring one.. I saw a recipe for a chocolate bread pudding, goofed it up somehow and I won't even mention what it looked like. I had an hour before we left..pudding in hand, so I made my old faithful, hot chocolate pudding. right..been making it for 20 years..never turns out bad. I was in such a panic, I forgot the flour! Stuck it in the oven and went to get dressed. Came out and the kitchen was full of smoke. I called, said we'd be a bit late and made another one..Everyone raved about it and I could not stop laughing thinking of the disaster that preceded it.

Mona's Easy Refrigerator Pickles
Amazing! Thought I was in my Mom's kitchen! Hubby, being British, asked me to cut the sugar down a bit next time, but for me, they were perfect. Just for the heck of it, I added a tbsp of dill and a tsp of mustard seed (white). This is a top notch recipe! Thanks for the taste of home!

Kyle's Favorite Beef Stew
I made this last night and actually followed the recipe. My husband, who is British, usually doesn't really like the American beef stews and prefers the potatoless UK ones. He all but licked his plate with this one. One thing I did, though, was what with living in the UK, I can get suet dumpling mix..so I did and they really fitted well with the stew. I'd think regular dumplings would be just as good. This recipe is a real keeper!

Slow-Cooker Barbecue Ribs
OMG!!! I made these tonight for my Scottish husband who has never in his life eaten ribs..Yet more of my country's food for him to try. He ate, he ate, and he ate some more! I've always boiled ribs first, but thanks Suzanne..will always bake them from now on. I, too, used BBQ sauce..about 3/4 cup for 4 servings and added ketchup to fill the cup measure. Not sure if I can mention a brand but it was the one with bourbon in it lol. This is a fantastic recipe and it will be permanently enshirined in my recipe box. They fall of the bone..and are soooo yummy..
