About this Cook
I am a mom of two girls, having recently gone back to work part-time after 10 or so years at home with my kids. I learned a lot about cooking while at home, as I wanted to cook a variety of healthy & tasty meals for my family. Of course I also like my sweets so I have garnered a collection of favorite dessert recipes!
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking meals with a lot of fresh ingredients and flavors. Mushy, meaty, heavy sauce-laden foods are not my thing usually. : ) Also, since my 12 year old daughter has become a pescetarian/vegetarian, we have been eating a lot more fish and I like to find new and interesting ways to prepare seafood and meatless main dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was growing up, my dad made homemade bread and my mom made baked goods quite often. I am happy to say that I have carried on the tradition. My girls enjoy helping to create (and eat) breads, muffins, bagels, cookies, cakes, and pies.
My cooking triumphs
With the help of Allrecipes, various other sources, and experience, I have learned to be able to concoct some of my own 'winners' such as my Banana Bread recipe that frequently gets requested, as well as my own marinades and spice combinations. If I get my act together, I'll post them!
My cooking tragedies
Anything I try to make with tofu just doesn't seem palatable.... Cooking large roasts usually doesn't work out too well either... Other than that, I don't think I've burned anything beyond recognition or anything similarly horrendous. Of course I could have a mental block~ maybe I should ask a family member. ; )

Quinoa Black Bean Burgers
I have made the recipe twice now and have learned a few things. Make sure to rinse and drain the beans very well, in order to help avoid soggy burgers. Use a good non-stick skillet so the burgers don't break into pieces as happened to me the first time when I tried to flip them. Sauté the garlic in a little olive oil 30 seconds or so (don't brown) to take the bite off a bit. I omitted the egg on the second attempt due to a vegan in our house and seemed not to negatively affect the burgers. The taste is good as is, but I think I'll experiment with subbing or adding other veggies and/or spices to the burgers. Thanks!

Whole family liked it. Since they don't enjoy super hot, subbed small can of mild green chilies for jalapenos and can of regular diced tomatoes for Rotel. Thanks!
