Oatmeal Raisin Cookies VII

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2008
This is absolutely the BEST oatmeal raisin cookie recipe I have ever baked or eaten! I followed the recipe almost exactly. I don't like the look or texture of whole oats in my cookies. So I put my oats in the blender and grind them into a fine powder. I also followed another reviewer's advice to place the raisins in a microwave dish, cover with water and cook for 5 minutes. Then let them stand for 10 minutes more. My cookies were still soft and chewy three days later!

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2008
In my on-going quest to eliminate all processed and pre-packaged foods from my home, I decided to make my own alfredo sauce. This recipe was wonderful! It was so rich and creamy and the taste was fantastic. I used Parmesan that was pre-grated at the store and it didn't melt very well. I think I'll either try to grate my own or try Rebecca's suggestion of substituting Gruyere cheese next time. Thanks for a quick and easy recipe! UPDATE: I tried this recipe again grating my own Parmesan cheese and it came out perfect! Great recipe - so quick and easy!

Chicken Marsala Florentine

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
If this is the first time you are using sun-dried tomatoes I would suggest either thoroughly washing the oil off of the tomatoes or using unprocessed sun-dried tomatoes. This dish was way too oily for consumption. I also substituted the 1 cup marsala with 1/4 cup marsala, 1/4 pinot grigio and 1/2 cup of chicken broth. If I try this recipe again, I might even substitute chopped romas for the sun-dried.

Miracle Baking Powder Pie Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
I had the same trouble with this recipe. I followed the instructions exactly. It crumbled and would not roll out. After trying three times to salvage the dough, I had to throw out the entire batch and start over with a different recipe.

Basic Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
This recipe was perfect! After a disaster with a different pie crust, I tried this one. It was so easy and turned out just the way I'd hoped. I did roll out the dough between two pieces of wax paper. That made it easier to get into the pie dish.

Butter Rich Spritz Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2008
I wasn't able to get these cookies to work. The dough was so dry the cookies fell apart the minute they came out of the press. The raw dough tasted fine, but I wasn't even able to shape them by hand for baking. I think it is the amount of dry ingredients versus wet ingredients that cause the dough to fall apart.

Six-Layer Coconut Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2009
This cake was so good! I will definitely make it again. The only change I made was to use lemon juice and lemon extract in the filling instead of orange juice and orange extract. It was perfect for the lemon lovers in my family.

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
I never buy taco seasoning from the store anymore. I just put together a batch of this and keep it in the cupboard. The flavor is so much better than anything that can be purchased.

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2009
This recipe turned out perfect. I only had about 1 3/4 cup of bananas and it still had a really nice banana flavor. I also added a handful of raisins to my bread. Delicious!

Bacon for the Family or a Crowd

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2009
This is one of the best tips I have ever received on cooking bacon! I used to break out the huge iron skillet and the bacon press ... NO MORE! Cooking the bacon this way leaves my hands free to make the rest of the meal.

Blueberry Bread I

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2009
This recipe was ok. The bread came out more like a dense cake. I was hoping for a consistency along the lines of banana bread, but the flavor was good. My kids really liked it and that is who I made it for!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
***EDITED*** I don't know what the problem is, but these cookies just don't turn out. The first time I made them, they were OK. However, I have tried to make them three more times and I always end up tossing the dough away. It doesn't matter if I chill the dough or not. The dough does not roll properly and it never rolls thin enough. No matter how much flour I use on my rolling surface and rolling pin the cookies stick and tear. I'll keep looking because this cookie recipe is definitely not the right one.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
I love chocolate chip scones! I used to pay big bucks for them at a local bakery - now I make my own. I do add a little more sour cream to mine because I prefer my scones to be more moist.

German Chocolate Cake Frosting II

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
This was the first time I attempted to make German chocolate cake frosting from scratch. I was so worried it wouldn't come out right, but it was perfect. I didn't make any changes and everyone loved it.
