About this Cook
I cook, I eat, therefore I am (hippy)
My favorite things to cook
Mostly sweets, trying to move on to "real food." I think it's because of the reaction desserts get... normally real food doesn't get the "oooh aaaah" (except that buffalo chicken dip!!! wow!)
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother was a home ec teacher, so my tradition is to follow recipes *to the letter* :-) I like Martha Stewart's recipes. Something in me likes difficulty. I feel guilty when it's too easy. Like using cake mix. I like toasting and grinding my own hazelnuts, making my own lemon curd and hand mixing Gianduja, instead of buying Nutella. I will add difficult steps to some recipes, like straining cooked sweet potato so that a cheesecake won't have fibrous strands. Crazy, I know.
My cooking triumphs
A baked lasagna from another site... it was orgasmic!!
My cooking tragedies
erm... I'm pretty careful

Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats
This recipe was AMAZING!! the treats are so healthy, that I don't care how many my finicky little Westie has. I no longer have to shop for treats. I doubled the recipe and upped the pumpkin and PB. I used the following proportions: 5 cups of flour (ground an entire can of oatmeal in the food processor) One entire 15 ounce can of pumpkin one tsp cinnamon one tsp salt half cup or so of PB 4 eggs Didn't even try to mix it, just squished with my fingers, until color and texture were uniform. (also have thrown in cooked leftover brown rice) I rolled it out on 2 cookie sheets (oiled) baked for 30 mins, and cut them with a pizza cutter to 1/2 inch squares. Baked a little more after cutting,. Then freeze them until ready to use, a handful at a time. My westie eats them frozen, or I can nuke them a little. LOVE!!!! PS - when my westie has diarrhea, these are the very efficient remedy. And she gladly takes her meds.

Mountain Apple Cobbler
My coworker made this for a work party and I thought it was an "old home" German recipe. It was irresistible!!! Then, she told me it was THIS!!! Best cobbler I ever had!!! Incredibly quick! I can't wait to make it!

Blonde Brownies I
This recipe seems very promising. I used Green & Black chocolate bars, a mix of 1 dark and 2 35%. I used pecans instead of walnuts, upped the salt a tad. It smells like heaven!!! It's for a charity bakesale this afternoon. I will try to resist. :-) Back with details on the taste.
