Bengali Chicken Curry with Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2014
My in-laws are from Bangladesh and I made this for them. I didn't use tomatoes because of a medical condition. I thought it was really good and my MIL said it was very good. She hasn't been eating much due to illness but she had a 2nd helping. I'd call that success! I didn't give it 5 stars because it's not as good as MILs chicken curry. I know she doesn't use tomatoes in hers so I know that's not why. This is a keeper until I can get her to give me her "recipe."

Erin's Cheesy Broccoli Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2013
This is a really good soup! My 3 girls, 6 and under, will all eat it so that's a winner in my book. I don't normally change recipes but I couldn't handle the amount of fat and calories this would have. I know...creamy soups are usually high in fat/calories. I reduced the amount of butter to 1/4 cup and the cream cheese to about 5-6oz. I also added some pepper since some others said it was a little bland. I should have reduced the flour too because I can taste the flour, girls don't know the difference. I will definitely make this again. May even use the cheesy mixture base for a homemade Mac n cheese but add more cheese.

Dark Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2013
Oh my heavenly chocolate!! I made cupcakes using this recipe with one small change. I mixed the vinegar and milk then let it sit for about 5 minutes before mixing in. I do this with pancakes too! These are delicious without anything on it, vanilla buttercream only makes it more amazing.

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2013
I love pancakes!! Like, really love pancakes. However, I had given up on finding a good recipe that didnt use buttermilk because seriously, eho keeps this on hand?? I just went to Bisquick and adding things to make them fluffier. I'm trying to buy less processed foods and make from scratch while feeding a family of five. These pancakes are hands down the BEST pancakes!! They have a nice fluffy texture that I absolutely love. I don't always add the butter and if I'm not in a hurry I add vanilla. Really though they are amazing just as the recipe is!! I double it to feed us all and easily have left overs. Now I make up the dry ingredients in individual containers to store and save me time in the mornings.

Pumpkin Bread IV

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2011
Love this recipe! I haven't made it exactly following recipe but only because I wanted it a little lower calorie/ sugar for my kids. I use applesauce in place of the oil and only 2 cups of sugar. Nobody seems to notice and my girls looove this pumpkin bread! I'm sure it is delish with the oil and full amount of sugar.

Kyle's Favorite Beef Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2011
I have been looking for a good beef stew recipe because I'm not good with traditional dishes. I'm much better with Indian/Thai and other ethnic dishes. My husband eats just about anything and I could tell instantly that he didn't like it. At first I liked it but the more I ate the more I felt like I was eating onions. I only used 2 small onions too. I think I would omit the onions since it has onion soup in it, however, I probably won't make this again. Everything did cook nicely though, nothing was too mushy or crisp.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
I don't usually make chocolate chip cookies because they usually end up crispy. These are definitely soft and very yummy. Milk is required when eating! I did increase to 2 tablespoons of vanilla based on another review because I like vanilla. Will make these again.

Sturdy Whipped Cream Frosting

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2010
I had to use a food processor to make mine in since I'm in the middle of a big move and my mixer is in storage. So I'm rating the flavor more than the consistency. I think it's a little more like a light cream cheese frosting then a whipped cream frosting. I taste cream cheese more than whipped cream. I'll try it again when I have a mixer but I do think I'll use less cream cheese and more whipping cream to change the flavor, unless I'm looking for a cream cheese taste. It's also pretty sweet so I'd add the sugar in a little bit at a time to desired sweetness.

Rosemary Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2010
Very easy recipe! I didn't have fresh rosemary so I used jarred and it was still great. This is a great chicken to have over a salad, lots of flavor.

Roasted Garlic Lemon Broccoli

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2010
This didn't turn out as good as I'd hoped. I cooked as instructed and it was still pretty crunchy. I would have cooked it longer but it was looking pretty ugly and I was afraid of serving black broccoli. I also thought it was too salty but I use kosher salt for cooking so that could be why.

French Toast Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2010
I made this for my son and a bunch of his friends (17-18yrs) for a birthday breakfast and it was a hit! It was devoured. I wasn't sure what kind of bread I should use but I found a really soft freshly made white bread at my local health food store. Normally I would use only whole grain breads but I wanted it to be more of a traditional french toast.

Braised Balsamic Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2010
This was delicious! I didn't really make any changes to the recipe (I didn't measure the herbs) and the sauce is full of flavor. I think I'm going to try making a spaghetti sauce using this recipe as well as making this recipe in a slow cooker. I bet the chicken will be even better after cooking all day in this sauce.

Oatmeal and Wheat Flour Blueberry Pancakes

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2010
These are delicious! I just made my first batch and they are much better than I thought they would be. The only change I made was to add vanilla. I'm a huge pancake fan but am working using only whole grain foods for my family. I tried another whole wheat blueberry recipe and it was VERY bland. These are good without any butter and/or syrup. MMMm!

Macaroni and Cheese V

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2010
I love this recipe, so yummy! The first time I made it used Dijon mustard because I didn't have any dry mustard (mid cooking) and it was a hit! Since then I've made it with dry mustard and it's not quite the same. The dijon really adds an extra kick in taste you don't expect in mac n cheese.

Vegetarian Korma

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2010
My husband is from Bangladesh so I tried this when his dad was visiting. We loved it and it was so easy to make. Normally I don't make changes but I did use nonfat yogurt instead of the cream to cut down the calories. I'm sure making it with cream would be heavenly!! It's great with rice, tortillas, naan or alone.

Quick Pasta Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2010
I have never made my own sauce before and looked for a basic one I could make in a pinch. This was soooo easy and tasted great and my favorite part is that it's so much cheaper than jarred sauce. My family loved the flavor of it. Now that I have this basic recipe I'm branching out with adding other herbs and veges. I can now enjoy pasta more than I ever did.
