Wine not ?

So I am a wee bit hung over today.
There. I said it.
If you read my last blog entry you would know that we went out for dinner last night.
(my first dinner out as a vegetarian)
It was a fantastic restaurant with fantastic service...the kind of service that makes it IMPOSSIBLE to keep track of your wine intake because your glass is ALWAYS full!
Mind you, I wasnt feeling too "out of it".
Someone else ordered the wine and I found it quite lovely.
Im pretty sure I only had about 2 glasses because I have been trying to cut back on my wine.
When I woke up this morning I felt pretty ... well, crappy!
I have learned recently that when choosing a bottle of wine, you should always look at the back of the bottle to look for "sulfites".
You do NOT want wine with added sulfites.
Why not you ask?
Because you wind up waking up feeling like !
Sulfites are added to wine to fight bacteria growth and make it last longer (preservatives...bleh).
Sulfites are also used to clean the barrels and such.
Sulfites can actually trigger Asthma and allergic reactions!
Pretty interesting.
The wine last night did contain added sulfites.
The proof is in the pudding :)
Next time I will go with some organic red wine...mmmmm...

Hey! I know the feeling! LOL! Anyways, I could give up the meat way before I could give up the wine! Another trick - drink lots of water before you go to bed. It helps the headache. Drinking dehydrates you, thus, replenish the water and you should feel much better. I always do! :-)

Nice graphics and good info as well. Yes, you have to watch out for those added sulfites! Had my first meal out today as a vegan. It was Thai. Great stuff!

Nice photo! Did you do that? I loves me a glass o' wine, but I have to wait for the weekends. One glass just makes me too sleepy to get anything done during the week.

I am from the Julia Childs school of cooking.... can't cook without drinking wine!! :)

I must admit, I had nothing to do with that photo...I just really liked it ;) My father is first generation Italian so wine is, has been and will ALWAYS be a big part of all family gatherings! I dont plan on ever giving it up! But as like "foodilicious" I, too, get tired after only having 1 glass...but if I have 2 or 3 or 4....I feel GREAT ;) And I always try to get in as much water as I can...Mother Ann, it DOES make all the difference! I love Thai...and now that Im a vegetarian, I think Thai will be a great option for me! My husband loves Thai as well, so that works out perfect!

Funny story about Julia Child...I made my husband watch Julie and Julia and, to his surprise, he loved it! So one night after having a few...maybe too many...he got on-line and got a "great" idea for a Christmas gift for me! He decided to get me a first addition copy of "Mastering the Art of French Cooking". Nice thought but he should have shopped around! He ended up paying $300 for it! God, I love that fool ;)

i consider myself a bit of a professional drunk. i have found that if i drink lots of water during the day that i plan on drinking then if i stop every second drink and have a glass of water, then a big glass of water before i go to bed then i never get hangovers. unless of course jager is involved, and if you choose to drink that you are on your own....

About Me
MAN! I love to eat...most of all I love trying new things! I have always said I will try any food TWICE...but I have recently gone VEGETARIAN so I guess that wont apply anymore....hhhmmmm...
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking Italian! Probably because I am Italian ;)
My favorite family cooking traditions
My fav would be...Christmas Eve. Dad goes and buys every fish he can find like squid, smelts, mussles clams and oysters and we chow down in a BIG way! He makes this FANtastic home made pasta with a tomato, basil, clam sauce...TO DIE FOR!
My cooking tragedies
My first pie for a family gathering...I got the recipe out of a magazine..."peaches and cream". It all went great! I peeled the freshest, juiciest peaches I could find...I followed the recipe to a tee because I wasnt too familiar with baking at all. I even laticed the looked exactly like the pic in the magazine...until I put my big foot through it! I put it on the floor of the car, then got out to put the dogs in the back...when I jumped back in to bring it to my parents house I stepped right onto it! Dont worry I STILL ate it :)
