Plain Cake Doughnuts

Reviewed: May 13, 2010
I really didn't care for these. The addition of cinnamon gave these a weird taste. If I would try these again, which I doubt I would do, I would cut out the cinnamon. I even shook them in a bag of powdered sugar while they were still hot. Didn't help.

Scrambled Eggs Done Right

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2008
I wanted to try this recipe to see what the to-do was about. There were some pretty passionate bad reviews...all over eggs! So, I can honestly tell you that these eggs did turn out perfect. I used Miracle Whip though, so maybe the real mayo is a bad idea..??. My advice...don't take an egg so seriously! Life has much bigger worries than how good a scrambled egg is! Sheesh!

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2008
I made a recipe and a half, and this made 2 perfect 9x5 bread loaves. Perfect denseness and texture. Had it warm with butter...tasted more zucchini-ish. Liked it better when room temp.. Probably be great with chocolate chips. Thanks for sharing!

Clark Gable Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2008
I made this recipe, using the 2 Tbsp. of baking powder. I can not understand how anyone could find them edible that way. I made the recipe again a few weeks later using only one Tbsp. of baking powder, and they were much better. If you try it with the full 2 Tbsp., beware. (I am giving one star for the recipe as written. Using only one Tbsp. would get a 4 star from me, since they were a little too runny for my taste.)

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2008
Wow. This cake is delicious. I baked it in a 9x13 pan. When I took it out of the oven, I pressed the air out of the cake with a spatula, making it even on top. I covered it with a dish towel to cool, holding in the steam to keep it moist. I made the Satiny Chocolate Glaze from this site to spread on top. It was great while still a little warm, with ice cream. Thanks for the new keeper.

Orange Party Cake II

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2008
This cake was okay. The orange flavor of the cake was too artificial tasting to me. Maybe orange juice added in place of the water next time?

Bob's Cinnamon-Oatmeal Pancakes

Reviewed: May 24, 2008
If you are reading these reviews, trying to decide if you want to try this recipe, then read on! I found this recipe by doing an ingredient search for pancakes made without milk. Wow, am I glad we ran out of milk! Don't be turned off by the bad reviews. They just needed to play around with the recipe a little. These are the changes that I made: Used apple juice,(since I didn't have apple cider), added 1/8 teaspoon salt to enhance flavor, and added 1/2 cup extra juice, after cooking oats in microwave, to thin out batter,(and it also cooled the mixture quicker). I added oats, apple juice, vinegar, butter and raisins altogether before cooking. This melted the butter and also softened the raisins. Then I added the extra 1/2 cup apple juice after the oat mixture was microwaved. This cooled the oats enough to add the 2 eggs without scrambling them. After stirring in the eggs, I added the flour and baking powder, and mixed thoroughly. I used a gravy ladle to pour into a cast iron skillet on medium to medium low flame with a little oil and butter for frying. You can not cook these too quickly. After pancake turned golden brown around edges, I flipped them and cooked another 45 or so seconds. I put pancakes on plate and buttered tops and drizzled maple syrup over top. Delicious! Made a batch with raisins and without...I prefer without, but thats a matter of taste. Thanks Bob for the recipe!

Truck-Stop Buttermilk Pancakes

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2008
These pancakes were very good. I didn't have buttermilk, so I added vinegar to regular milk, (1 Tbsp. per cup of milk replacing buttermilk). After tasting the pancakes, I realized that some of the other reviewers were correct....they were a bit bland. So, I added a little more sugar, and I added the salt, which I originally omitted. This really made a difference! Over all, a good recipe....just needed a little tweaking :0).
