I'm a 26-year-old, married law student living in Dallas, TX. My son was born in October 2010. I have been baking since I was about 5 and cooking since I was able to reach the stove. Cooking and shopping for cooking-related things are my favorite past times. I love the challenge of eating at a restaurant and recreating my family's favorite dishes at home!
My favorite things to cook
I think chicken parmesan was one of the first dishes that I made for a group of friends, so it will always be a favorite. I also love to make enchiladas, different soups/bisques, chocolate cake (because it's my husband's favorite), carnitas tacos, and anything with tons of basil in it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up in a house that ate tuna and hamburger helper nearly every night, so I'm trying to start a cooking tradition to pass down to my kids someday.
My cooking triumphs
I made my own wedding cake and catered the food. The staff at our venue thought I was crazy, but it all came together in the end! My cake was a 3-tiered white cake with buttercream frosting, pearl and red ribbon embelishments, and homemade lemon curd and raspberry jam filling. To eat, we had tomato-basil-mozzarella appetizers, sour cream chicken enchiladas, baked ziti, refried beans, mexican rice, salad, and bread sticks.
My cooking tragedies
I think the most disgusting dish I've ever made was a pot of gumbo. I added the okra way too early, and the entire dish looked and tasted like a bucket of slime. Gross!

Banana Crumb Muffins
Delicious! Make sure your bananas are super ripe and very large (or use 4 smaller bananas). I, like other reviewers, added 2 tsp vanilla to the banana mixture and 1 tsp cinnamon to the flour mixture. i also used white sugar instead of brown sugar and added chopped pecans to the topping, but the recipe would have no doubt been fabulous just as written!

Teriyaki Sauce and Marinade
My husband flipped over this sauce! I used regular white wine instead of mirin and ommitted the red pepper flakes, but I doubt either of these substitutions made a difference in the final product. I cut up some chicken thighes, sauteed them, and then tossed them in the sauce - delicious!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread
