About this Cook
I learned to cook like many other people, just by hanging out in the kitchen with my mom. I have a 17 year old son that likes to hang out in the kitchen now! I love it when he watches and asks questions about why I'm adding this or that. Hopefully my 4 year old son will do the same thing in a year or so!
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook anything that I know my family loves, but I also love to try new recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family cooking tradition is Christmas breakfast. My Grandfather used to cook for 20 or so people on Christmas morning. He made about 5 different kinds of meat, plus pancakes, corned beef hash, eggs, anything you can name. Now my mom is in charge of breakfast and it is just as good. Someday it will be passed on to me and then to one of my children.
My cooking triumphs
I feel I triuph every time my husband says "we should have this every week!".
My cooking tragedies
OOPS! I am usually good at throwing things together out of the freezer and the cupboard. Just not with salmon I guess. I didn't get to hear "we should have this every week" on that one. DISASTER!!!

Slow-Roasted Tomatoes
These turned out wonderful. Made them as the recipe stated, except I used tomatoes out of the garden, and I used foil on the pan to cut down on the mess. I chopped them up to use in risotto (what I had left after munching on them like candy!) I can think of so much to do with these tomatoes. I saw someone say to not use the sugar, but I would certainly not leave it out.

Chicken Cilantro
This was a great base recipe! I did follow other reviews and added cumin and lime. I also used corn instead of hominy and I added black beans to make it more of a Mexican soup. I love cilantro, but I was still a little concerned about the amount used, but it was wonderful!

Home Made Farmer's Cheese
What a great recipe! I can't believe how easy it was to make farmers cheese! I wanted to make perogies for my husband, but the closest place I know of to get farmers cheese is almost an hour away, so I thought I would give it a try. I halved the recipe (only because I didn't want to waste a whole gallon of milk if it didn't work). I did have 2 cups of heavy cream in the frige that had just expired, so I threw that in there too. I didn't have any luck with the leftover whey, but I didn't expect to because it was pretty clear. The cheese turned out sweet and velvety, I am really hoping that I have enough for the perogies after I've been taste testing it! I will be making this all the time. AMAZING!!!!
