About this Cook
I learned to cook like many other people, just by hanging out in the kitchen with my mom. I have a 17 year old son that likes to hang out in the kitchen now! I love it when he watches and asks questions about why I'm adding this or that. Hopefully my 4 year old son will do the same thing in a year or so!
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook anything that I know my family loves, but I also love to try new recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family cooking tradition is Christmas breakfast. My Grandfather used to cook for 20 or so people on Christmas morning. He made about 5 different kinds of meat, plus pancakes, corned beef hash, eggs, anything you can name. Now my mom is in charge of breakfast and it is just as good. Someday it will be passed on to me and then to one of my children.
My cooking triumphs
I feel I triuph every time my husband says "we should have this every week!".
My cooking tragedies
OOPS! I am usually good at throwing things together out of the freezer and the cupboard. Just not with salmon I guess. I didn't get to hear "we should have this every week" on that one. DISASTER!!!

Oriental Sesame Dip
Thank you! I have been trying to figure out how to make this ever since my favorite chinese restaurant closed down! I was missing the vinegar everytime. This is exactly what I was looking for and easy to make. I also have a feeling that your slaw suggestion is another thing recipe I have been trying to find for years (I had it at a potluck and the woman left before I could ask her for the recipe)I only made a 1/4 batch tonight for 10 potstickers, but I will make the full recipe and try the slaw next week!

Cream of Chicken Soup From Scratch
I made this recipe EXACTLY as written and it turned out perfect. To those of you that had problems with adding the milk/flour mixture to the hot liquid, this is called a slurry. Made of flour or cornstarch and mixed with some kind of cold liquid. It is a method that is in many of the recipes that my grandmother handed down. I mixed the slurry in a glass measuring cup with a pouring spout, so that I could stream it into the hot broth mixture slowly. Make sure you are whisking properly and don't walk away from it. I get less lumps using this method than using a rue. I used this with leftover cubed turkey and a few veggies for chicken and biscuits. Way better than buying the canned stuff!!!

Chicken Cilantro
This was a great base recipe! I did follow other reviews and added cumin and lime. I also used corn instead of hominy and I added black beans to make it more of a Mexican soup. I love cilantro, but I was still a little concerned about the amount used, but it was wonderful!
