About this Cook
I'm a 30-something,single, woman in a Chicago suburb. I originally went to school to be a chef, but I changed majors after hearing several horror stories.(I was 18 and scared of the world!) I went on to become a nurse, although i never did stop cooking. I've been cooking since I was making cinnamon-sugar biscuits for my siblings and playing "restaurant" for my parents at the age of 10. I love the versatility of cooking and the art of creating new tastes!!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake! I decorate cakes for friends and family; so desserts would have to be number 1. I love to make quick and easy, feel good foods: Mac' and cheese, chili, cornbread, salsa w/ homemade chips, pies, candied yams, etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cornbread by far!!!! I think I must have made it everyday 2-3 days between the ages of 16 and 20. My grandmother lived with us and since she made greens every 2-3 days,I was designated to make the cornbread to eat with them.
My cooking triumphs
Sweet Potato Pie-Making sweet potato pie from scratch is difficult! There really is no specific recipe because everyone remembers it differently. so to make one as good as you grandmothers takes practice, practice, practice!! The best compliment: A friend at work told me that she hadn't tasted pie like this since she had eaten her grandmother's. (Score!!!!!!)
My cooking tragedies
There are two- First, I tried to make Blackend Catfish for my family at home-do not try if you do not have a good exhaust system-We all ended up outside coughing and sneezing, with our eyes burning and tearing from all the smoke and pepper in the air!!!! Second-I made my 1st fried chicken and When we all sat down to eat, not only had I not cooked it all the way, but I had accidentally used cinnamon, instead of paprika!

Chocolate Banana Cake
A wonderful cupcake! I added 3 bananas to a measuring cup and added water until it reached the amount that was listed on the mix and then I added a cup of chopped chocolate chips, both were suggested by another member (she used mini chips, but I didn't have any) FABULOUS!

fabulous-look no further!!!!!! Make sure you use freash parmesan, expensive, but well worth it!!! I've made it three times!!!

Famous Butter Chicken
WONDERFUL!!!This recipe is sooooo good. I made this on a whim for a quick meal two weeks ago!! I cooked all the rest of my chicken breasts this way since then!! Everyone who has tasted it, asked for the recipe, and How EASY!!!
