The first time I made this recipe I followed it exactly. It turned out very moist, slightly crisp on the edges, and I topped it with a dusting of powder sugar. The family loved it but I thought it was a bit too much oil. I did use the mini chocolate chips and it was definitely moist to the last bite.
Taking the suggestions of other reviewers, I modified the recipe for my mother's 60th birthday. I used a Chocolate Fudge cake mix, Chocolate Mint pudding mix, 1/2 teaspoon of mint extract (probably didn't need it but chocolate mint is my mom's favorite), and Ande's mint baking chips. I used a chocolate ganache type recipe - using melted butter, 1/3 cup of cocoa powder, and 1.5 cups of confectioner's sugar- again adding 1/2 teaspoon of mint extract- the cake turned out wonderful and she loved it. I will definitely be making this recipe again and again- and experimenting with different combinations.
