Chocolate-Chocolate Chip Bacon Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2011
I am giving this recipe a 4 because the chocolate cookie part was so good. Howeve, I can only assume it was the bacon that left an odd after taste that lingered for hours. I gave one cookie to a coworker for their opinion, without mentioning the funny after taste, and they gave it the same critique as I did "good chocolate cookie, but an after tatste". I'll try the basic recipe again, but will leave out bacon.

Mini Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
Made for a party today... really cute. I followed directions exactly. I chilled dough prior to baking and they came out puffy, very moist, and soft. They are quite tasty, but next time I think I'll add either more pumpkin and/or more spices. Not quite pumpkin-y enough for me.

Master Recipe for Rich and Creamy Cheesecake

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2010
Absolutely delicious. As creamy as everyone has raved. I used a traditional graham crust as this recipe has no crust, just crumbs covering cake. I made individual cheesecakes, about standard cupcake size. I baked at 325 (no water bath) for about 18-20 mins, turned oven off left door ajar for about 12-15mins, and because I was worried about the jiggly center I left oven off and closed the door for another 15-17mins. They were perfectly cooked - no cracks in the top either. Great recipe.

The Best Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2010
The lemon portion of these bars was absolutely perfect in flavor. Nice and tart. I, like many others, used 2/3 cup lemon juice. I wish I had added a little more flour to compensate for the added liquid because my bars didn't firm up as tightly as I wanted. Other than that these were so delicious! I love the shortbread crust too.

I don't know that this is miles better than the trusty old original TollHouse recipe, but the cookies are delicious.

Grandma's Peach French Toast

Reviewed: May 21, 2006
WOW! This is hands-down excellent. I made this for a Mother's Day breakfast -it was a huge hit! I was a bit leery of the canned peaches, but one taste of the final product and those concerns evaporated. I soaked both sides of the bread prior to placing on top of peaches. Another minor alteration to the basic recipe that I made (because so many reviewers mentioned how sweet this dish is) was after draining I quickly ran water over the peaches to remove any excess syrup. I don't know if that actually altered the flavor (since this is the first, and only, time I've made this recipe) but it was plenty sweet and simply couldn't have been better. Even my husband, who is pretty stingy on the compliments, raved. Put this one in your recipe box. Oh so yummy.

Sour Cream Lemon Pie

Reviewed: May 12, 2006
I tried this recipe for a reitrement reception and they were a big success. I didn't do much in the way of changing this recipe except cut back slightly on the milk, then added a bit more lemon juice, zest, and sour cream. Instead of a full-size pie shell I used Athena's Mini Shells and topped with whipped cream. It's a keeper!

These were a hit Chistmas Eve. I am looking forward to making them again New Years. Perfectly delicious as is, but this is one of those basic recipes that could easily be altered into so many yummy variations. Thanks for this keeper.

Sweet, chewy, and irresistibly different. I added chopped pecans to half the dough to satisfy the nut lovers in my family.

Delicious Raspberry Oatmeal Cookie Bars

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2005
These were PERFECT in every way! Easy, quick, and delicious! I love to bake and do bake a lot and I get lots of compliments on my treats. These moist yummy bars were way up at the top of the raves. Try em. The only changes - apricot jam (because that's what I had on hand). I doubled the basic recipe, sprayed 9x13 plus lined the sides with sprayed parchment. They were easy to cut and super easy to get out of the pan. I drizzled a tiny bit of white chocolate on top (not necessary). I almost forgot, I also added a tsp of cinnamon to the oatmeal mixture.

German Chocolate Cake III

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2005
I got rave reviews for this cake, but it'll need to be a very, very special occasion before I'll ever go to that much trouble again. I love to bake, but this cake was ridiculous! The filling alone was an ordeal. It took forever. I followed the original recipe exactly, stirred the filling for about 20-25 minutes - it never thickened enough. So I started over and followed the sweetened condensed milk advice of others as opposed to evaporated milk called for in the recipe. After stirring for close to 40 minutes it finally thickened. Yes it was/is a very good cake, but way, way too much work for me!

Got high praise for this recipe. Like many others suggested, I lined my baking sheets with parchment. Many said tasted like a Heath bar, but softer.

Aunt Teen's Creamy Chocolate Fudge

Excellent - I accidentally threw in about 1/2 white chocolate chips before I realized it was supposed to be semisweet. It was too late once I realized my error so I continued and finished off the with semisweet... they are still wonderful and creamy.

Irish Cream Truffle Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2004
Very tasty... However I would make some changes next time I make it. First, I would use a 9x12 as opposed 8x8 - these were way too tall to cut through w/o the top layer breaking off. Secondly, I would definitely line my pan with foil instead of buttering it - so, so, so much easier to get out of pan (and a cxlean pan to boot.

Fudge Bottomed Chocolate Layer Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2004
This dessert sort of got overlooked and forgotten at the Thanksgiving table so at the eve's end it went home with relatives' to their freezers (leftovers). I received 2 separate phone calls today (neice and dad) and both RAVED over this dessert. Granted my 80 yr old dad is prejudiced where his daughter is concerned, but he sure sounded sincere when he said "that's the best chocolate pie I've ever tasted!" I'll be making this one again.
