About this Cook
I am 23 and from Texas and started cooking with my mom when I was about 13 or 14. I am the only one out of my three sisters that took up an intrest. My mother is a wonderful southern cook and I am blessed to have had her to learn from. I truly love this website and all of the friendly people and their wondeful meals.
My favorite things to cook
Healthy southern food (is there such a thing?), baking and decorating cakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother makes the best Deer Chili during the winter. She also makes these huge pork chops in the Crock Pot, they are to die for.
My cooking triumphs
I have just gotten into the whole cake decoratig thing. I have two niece's from my oldest sister and the youngest wanted a frog cake for her birthday, the oldest wanted a tinkerbell cake for her birthday. I am pleased to say that both cakes turned out wounderful. (Please note if you make a birthday cake and decide to ice it with star shaped drops of icing it will take about 3-4 hours, so start the cake in the afternoon. Don't be like me and not finish until 3am)
My cooking tragedies
Chocolate toffee cheesecake. I got this recipe from a co-worker who had made it for a potluck luncheon we had. I decided to make it for Christmas that year. It was an utter disaster, I have no idea what I did wrong. I am scared to try it again.

Feta Cheese Turkey Burgers
My husband and I really enjoyed these burgers. I did not put the olives in them cause we both do not care much for them and I used feta that had herbs and garlic in it. I also used a little greek seasoning that had oregano in it and they came out wonderful. I served them with butternut squash fries which were also really good and easy to make!

Shrimp Lemon Pepper Linguini
I really enjoyed this recipe, and so did my fiance. I added a little more olive oil and less butter to make it a little healthier. I also used dried basil and parsley cause I didn't have the fresh, but it came out just fine. Thanks for the great recipe.

Fantastic Black Bean Chili
This was a quick and easy chili to make. I did add some things to strengthen the flavor a bit. I added 1 tablespoon of cumin, half a can of green chilies, 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes, half of a yellow bell pepper, topped it with cheese and I did not put the vinegar in it. I also cooked it in the Crock Pot for four hours as suggested by some of the other reviews. It turned out wonderful. This would be great for the winter time since the chilies make it a little spicy. Thanks for the recipe!
