Barley Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2007
I waivered between 4 and 5 stars for this one. I ultimately picked 5 only because I didn't rave about it as much as my husband and 8 year old did. The major benefit of this dish is that it is very good for you, but also tastes good. I am more of a down home cookin', put gravy on everything kind of gal. But, my health concious husband was grateful that I made this and my 8 year old daughter declared me a great cook after she took a bite. This goes in the rotation.

The Captain's Famous Jambalaya

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2007
Even though I was the only one in my house who could handle the heat of this, I'm still going to give it five stars. The heat can be controlled next time I make it if I wish to do so. This was so good. I couldn't believe how easy it was to make and how great the results were. I've never made any kind of cajun food before, so I thought it would be a challenge. It wasn't at all. The taste was restaurant quality. I will definitely make this over and over again! YUMMY!

Baked Vegetables I

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2007
This was pretty yummy. I made it in a roasting bag as another reviewer suggested. All the veggies cooked up nice and tender. Next time I'm going to switch up the veggies. My husband would like me to make it next time with okra.

Taste of Home's Double Chili Cheese Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2007
This was delish. It's hard to believe it isn't all fat. It's relatively healthy compared to other dip appetizers. This is going in the recipe box!

Low-Fat Broccoli Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
This was just okay. It was too bland for me. I love to find low fat dishes that aren't low taste. This dish does not fall into that category. I'll keep looking for a tasty broccoli soup recipe.

Spicy Haddock

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
I hate to be harsh, but we did not like this at all. The ingredients on paper sound delicious, but the final product did not reflect that. I forced down an entire filet, my husband had two bites, threw it out, and opted for a peanut butter sandwich for dinner. His problem was that it brought out the fishy taste of the filet's too prominently. My beef with it was that it was too heavy on the chili powder for my taste. Needless to say, this dish won't be going in the rotation at my house.

COLLEGE INN® Turkey Black Bean Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
What made this so good was the sauce. The aroma of this being made was delicious. I was happy to have it fill my home. I'm giving it four stars just because it's hard for me to wrap my palate around turkey in chili instead of beef. It was a little wierd for me, but the sauce practically made up for it. Very tasty dish!

Flaky Dill Biscuits

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
Although these were just a tad heavy on the dill for my taste, I'm still giving them 5 stars because that can be easily adjusted. Plus, something this easy and this delicious shouldn't be punished! I have never made biscuits before and thought it would be a daunting task, but this was a total surprise. I can't wait to make these again!

Corned Beef Bagel Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
This was awesome. It was remeniscent to me of a dill dip that my grandpa makes every Christmas. The kids loved this as well. I will definitely make this again--Can't wait for the next family gathering!

BUSH'S® Tuscan Style Tomatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
These were NOT my thing. The pairing of tomato with the texture of baked beans did not appeal to anyone. I should have known that when I read the ingredients, but it received such a high rating, I made it anyway. If you REALLY liked baked beans, this will probably be a hit at your house. Not the case in mine.

Portuguese Chicken I

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2007
This was awesome, and I bet it's going to taste even better as leftover lunch tomorrow. I put it over brown rice and black beans, with a side dish of wax beans. My husband liked it and said he would eat this again if I made it. The baby loved it!

Skillet Pork Chops with Potatoes and Onion

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2007
I'm giving this a four only because the sauce was soupier than I would have liked for a pork chop dish. Next time I'm going to thicken it up and it will be perfect for me. My kids loved it--especially the toddler, she gobbled it up. I will definitely make pork chops this way again! I grilled it all up in my electric wok. That made everything SO easy!

Baked Whole Cauliflower

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
This was alright. I don't think it made anyone at my dinner table any more of a cauliflower fan than they were before, but it was an interesting twist on a somewhat bland veggie.

Double Chocolate Brownie Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
This was so yummy it was ridiculous. Everyone loved it. I smothered it in a chocolate chocolate chip frosting. One of my guests called the next day and said she wishes she had taken me up on sending a piece home with her. She found herself craving the cake in the middle of the night!

Easiest Mac-N-Cheese Ever!

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
I am giving this a four because I don't think the serving size was correct. I had to add a lot more processed cheese to make it not so dry. My dad, the homemade mac and cheese lover seemed to like it, and the kids loved it.

Sauteed Garlic Asparagus

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
This was just okay. I am not an asparagus fan, I made it for my other guests and had a lot left over. It didn't seem like the others were eating much of it.

Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
I enjoyed this, but ultimately had to add more cream cheese to get it to a smoother consistancy. It didn't seem to bother my guests, who gobbled it up. It went especially well with the salsa I laid out with it!

Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
These were delicious, but the best part was I threw them in the crock pot and forgot about them! They tasted every bit as good as my famous garlic mashed potatoes, but 10 times easier to make. I wish I could give this a 10!

Cream Cheese Penguins

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
These were a great conversation piece, easy to make, and allowed my 8 year old to take some credit. I did the cutting, but had her assemble the rest, and she enjoyed everyone's comments. They are just adorable and very yummy! They were a big hit and I will make again and again...anytime the occasion calls for it!

Deviled Eggs II

These were pretty good. I will make them again, but next time I will add more mayo to make them a little creamier. Otherwise, these were great!
