Pretending To Know What I Am Doing!

I have no specific way of eating, I have come to that conclusion.  I go through phases of cooking and eating.  I've been through a canning phase, a Greek food phase, a vegan phase, a slow cooker phase, a sauce phase, a make your own dressing phase.  I can't just focus on one aspect of food, there is too much to experience and learn and EAT!  That's probably why I never could go on any fad diets or subscribe to any one style of eating...I get bored- I am too curious as to what else there is to make an eat.  I can't just eat one type of way.  It's just not in my nature to stay put. I have to move, I have to investigate. Every season has new foods for me, every market, every store, every aisle. There are so many spices to try, so many fruits and vegetables to try, so many types of noodles, so many flavors of butter and so many kinds of jams and cheese. The world is a delicious place, having boundaries sucks! I know there are things that are indulgences too, of course, but I WILL eat them sometimes. I WILL eat deep fried pickles at the State Fair and I WILL eat a foot long corn dog- why? Because it's once every summer and it's delicious. Yes, at Christmas time I will eat peppermint truffles- yes, in Fall I will eat pumpkin pie, and yes, in summer I will have soft serve ice cream on a waffle cone!  I will also gobble up all of the asparagus and strawberries of spring,  peaches and watermelon of summer, butternut squash and corn of Autumn, and the sweet potatoes and clementines of winter.  I will also have a chocolate dipped oreo cookie and a glass of almond milk.  I will make my own ricotta cheese, experiment with steel cut oats, try home-made toffee. I can eat whatever I want, the key is moderation, not starvation...not deprivation. EAT, DRINK and BE HAPPY! It's life, why spend all of your time wishing you could have a cookie when you can have a cookie?  Healthy means so much more than just saying "no" to food.

Amen crunchy! I am the same way. I eat what I want in moderation and do not deprive myself of all the wonderfull treats I like. I have been able to maintain my weight for about 15 years now so it works for me!

Well said Crunchy! I eat seasonally too because I try to buy all my produce from our local farmers. OK, that doesn't work from November to May, but I get your point. I try to eat sensibly, but I will splurge on occassion with no guilt at all.

Yup!! Me, too! My wife is the opposite, though. Eating the same thing day after day does not bother her. I'm not complaining because she does come in handy at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.

BigShotsMom- we don't have access to a fresh market in the colder months either, I end up eating out of season or (*GASP*) canned or frozen fruits and veggies alot that time :)

Love your joie de vivre and healthy attitude toward food! There's just too much wonderful flavor, texture and variety in the world.

Right on Crunchy! Splurge without guilt - NO PROBLEM! I too eat as sensibly as I can MOST of the time. Then there are chicken wings with hot sauce about twice a year, a DQ burger about three times a year and good dark chocolate on a regular basis. Every so often we need to feed some inner craving just so we can appreciate healthy eating the rest of the time!

My cooking tragedies
I can't make something without a recipe. If I do something my own way, it usually ends up awful. There was also an incident with red pepper flakes and a volcanic calzone pizza, just tried to make a pizza, and I ended up with an inedible spicy volcano eruption instead.
