Gobi Aloo (Indian Style Cauliflower with Potatoes)

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2007
There is a debate here about whether or not this needs a gravy. the first time I had allo gobi, some friends from the Punjab region of Pakistan made it - and it had a thick rich gravy, so I have adjusted this accordingly. I add 2/3 c cream and some water to coat the veggies - it helps distribute the spices to all surface area. then I cook it down until it is a thick, but not plentiful, gravy. I have also been known to add 2 handfuls of green peas just before serving (my kids like it better this way).

Feta Cheese and Bacon Stuffed Breasts

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2007
one of our favorites. I buy fresh chicken breast in bulk when it is on sale and make 30 or so of these (I use the cut-a-hole-in-the-fat-end-and-stuff-it method; I think I will try crumbling the bacon next time - I like that idea), then freeze in 6-breast freezer bags. When I remove them from the freezer, I place the chicken on top of cooked basmati rice and then drizzle the oil mixture over the chicken and rice. The rice makes a wonderful addition and the flavors from the marinade and the chicken makes the rice to-die-for! I usually make a greek salad to go with it and fresh pita.

Maple-Drizzled Apple Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
It had good flavor, but my family did not like it. at all. I am thinking, though, that the problem is my family does not like oats inside the muffins - that seems to be the common factor in all the non-winner muffin recipes here.

Wheat Germ Whole-Wheat Buttermilk Pancakes

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2008
okay... first, my "variations" I followed one reviewer who substituted ground flax seed for the wheat germ (not having any) and 1/2 c yogurt plus 1.5 c milk for the buttermilk. also no canola, used coconut oil. I think I will go add 1 t of vanilla as some have suggested - I did that. in conclusion: these were yummy; the kids really liked them (I did add some choc chips to theirs - always helpful when trying a new recipe) I found them rather dry, but tasty. Dunno if I will make them again.

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2008
I dunno - maybe I am not a pumpkin seed fan - too much work to get to the meat, and unlike some, I do not like to eat the shell. I am giving 4 stars though because my children liked this one a lot (I had a lot of seeds, so I made some of this, some of the "Spiced Pumpkin Seeds" and some of the "Cinnasweet pumpkin Seeds." This was ds7's favorite.)

Spiced Pumpkin Seeds

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2008
I dunno - maybe I am not a pumpkin seed fan - too much work to get to the meat, and unlike some, I do not like to eat the shell. I am giving 4 stars though because the flavor of this is really very good... if you can get past the shell into the meat. (I had a lot of seeds, so I made some of this, some of the "Spiced Pumpkin Seeds" and some of the "Cinnasweet pumpkin Seeds." Ds7 liked this one quite well - and he is one of those that will eat the whole seed.)

Sugar Cookie Cutouts

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2009
I agree - rather dry. I try to half a new recipe so I do not get a lot. Easy to make, easy to roll. cooked up fine. But I agree with the other reviews - dry and kind of tasteless, even with a thick layer of crushed candy canes they had no flavor.

Fried Plantains

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
never had plantains before. We picked this up as a supplement to a homeschool lesson. We waited until it was almost black, and then tried to peel it. I had to cut the peel off with a knife. anyway, we fried them in coconut oil - the ones that cooked the longest tasted the best, and then we added sugar and cinnamon. it was a winner :)

Easy Masoor Daal

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2009
my family liked this! no, you don't understand. they liked this. I needed to tame the heat a bit, but.... they liked this. The cayenne needs to be at 1/8 t for my small children, and I used the normal American-grocery store lentils, not red, but THEY LIKED IT. I have added it to our normal "Indian" night of chicken korma, aloo masala and lassi.

Honey Mustard Dressing II

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
I took this on a salad to a baby shower, and got rave reviews. I doubled the recipe and used a deli mustard as the mustard in the recipe. I later added 1 T yellow mustard to give it more mustard flavor, but every one loved it!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
This is our alternate pancake recipe. I follow exactly, and add dehydrated and blended-to-tiny-chunks-if-not-flour berries - raspberries, blueberries or strawberries to give a berry flavor without extra liquid.

Pumpkin Pancakes

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
made these; they were too runny. so I added some flour. I also added some nutmeg, ginger and clove (since hubby likes the spices of pumpkin pie). I did not like these at all. the kids are eating them. Haven't heard from hubby yet. But unless he gives a definite thumbs up, I will not be making them again.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
My favorite blueberry muffin so far. I LOVE blueberry foods; hubby does not like "chunks" of stuff in his food - This means a lot of things need to be pureed before I cook them, including blueberries. So I took my dehydrated blueberries, put them in my coffee grinder, and made a chunky blueberry flour to which I then added enough water to make a paste. I swirled this into the batter, and everyone loved them. I did add a handful of reconstituted berries into my muffins. I think I might make a batch with whole berries just for me :)

Fantastic Lemon Butter Fillet

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
I really liked this, but since my kids did not, I will not be making it again. I think they do not like garlic taste unless it is fried golden. Maybe I could fry the garlic in a bit of butter first, then add the rest of the ingredients. But I do not think I will be making it again.
