Basic Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2012
This made a decent pizza crust. I used a packet of pizza crust yeast though, and I don't think it was designed for a recipe like this. If I try this crust again, I'll try regular yeast and see if that yields different results.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2012
I've made this several times now, and it's always delicious. It calls for a lot of apples, and I still haven't figured out the perfect amount, but I just use the extra slices as snacks in my lunches. This is the BEST pie!

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2011
I have to admit I was worried that I wouldn't like the sauce for this, but it turned out to be the perfect complement to the cordon bleu! I've never made cordon bleu before so I had a bit of a time with it, but it's not as difficult at it seems. String really helps keep everything together. I followed other reviewers suggestions and pan fried it until browned, then threw it in the oven at 350 F for 20 mins. Simmered the sauce on the stove until slightly thickened, then poured it over the chicken and the rice served with it. Pounding the chicken well is really important too!!

Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2011
Not a bad recipe. We had this for dinner tonight, and I just doctored it a little bit (added some garlic to the sauce, cooked the chicken with italian seasoning, added a touch more milk). There's another alfredo recipe on this site that we prefer, but for a night where I don't want to be stuck cooking a home made sauce this is perfect.

Donut Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2011
I don't want to rate this badly, because it's actually a great idea. I just personally don't like nutmeg this much, and after making these I realized I should have cut the nutmeg by A LOT. The texture was awesome, and the little edge pieces were good. But make sure you love nutmeg before you try this recipe as-is!!

Bacon-Cheddar Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2011
I've made these twice for potlucks now, and they haven't lasted long! It's an extremely popular item and they disappear before everyone arrives. I personally have never been a fan of deviled eggs, but I love these! My change was to add less mayo; I didn't really measure, but only added until the yolk was sticking together but not runny. I then added a small splash of milk to thin it slightly. This was probably what made the biggest difference, since I'm not a fan of the runny texture in most deviled eggs. Will definitely keep making this again and again!

Teriyaki Rib Eye Steaks

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2011
This was fantastic! I used all the ingredients, though I used much less honey only because mine was all solid. Plus, I had limited time, so I sliced a large steak into small pieces and just marinated for half an hour. My picky hubby loved it, so I'll definitely be making this again!

Shoyu Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2011
AWESOMESAUCE! Love these! I followed someone else's suggestion to put frozen thighs in a pot with the remaining ingredients and simmering for an hour. Turned out amazing! I think I may need to add a bit more water or cut the brown sugar by a bit next time though, because it got just a tad too thick. Otherwise it was perfection. :)

Strawberry Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2008
This was delicious! I made the whole recipe, and brought the extra loaf to work... everyone can't stop eating it! I almost regret bringing it in! lol. I did make a few changes, some not entirely on purpose. I doubled the strawberries based on others reviews, and mixed 1 cup of sugar into half and mushed it up with a fork. The rest I set to the side to fold in at the end. I used 1 cup of sweetened applesauce instead of oil (ran out of oil), and left out any more sugar. I used 1 tsp of cinnamon rather than what was called for, and added 1 tsp of vanilla for flavor. The end result was great! It turned out with a banana bread type texture. I didn't end up with any problems about it not cooking, though I did add an extra 10 minutes to be sure. I recommend this recipe and will definitely make it again!

Easy Mexican Hot Chocolate

Reviewed: May 9, 2008
This was quite tasty, something nice and different to try. I had mixed all my other ingredients together when I went to the fridge for milk, and realized that I didn't have any! So I used some left over evaporated milk I had in the fridge instead! I'm not sure how much this changed it, but it sure tasted fine! I did do as others suggested and used 1/2 milk to 1/2 water. The only complaint I had was that it was so rich, I couldn't drink it all on my own!

Spinach Tomato Tortellini

Reviewed: May 9, 2008
Delicious! This made a wonderful dinner! I chose to make this recipe because it looked so simple, and my husband loves tortellini. I followed all the directions, except that I replaced the tomatoes with a can of Italian tomatos, and instead of dried basil used fresh. I also added some chicken as other reviewers suggested, it added a good extra texture to the meal. Personally I think I would only make this with some cheese tortellini... the cheese seems to help make the dish. But I may try with a different noodle and add some additional cheeses... At any rate I'll be making this a lot!

Fresh Southern Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2008
This was very yummy! I was having a huge craving for peach cobbler, and after wandering through several recipes decided to use this one. Since I was short on time, I used one and a half large cans of sliced peaches rather than cooking my own. I just poured a little of the juices in the pan. For the dough, I added the cinnamon rather than topping with cinnamon sugar. And I used salted butter, so I omitted the salt altogether. Was very tasty, and not too hard!

Cinnamon Swirl Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2008
This was very yummy, also very easy. I love the fact that I have all the ingredients on hand, and my husband loved it. The only thing was that I found it was more cake like in consistency than a bread, which kind of surprised me. And, for anyone else who doesn't know better like me, don't just pour a bunch of the cinnamon sugar mixture on top... if it isn't mixed in properly then you just end up with that sitting on top! I ended up with a bit of a mess trying to get it off neatly.

French Baguettes

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2008
Perfect! So quick and easy! I don't have a bread machine so I made it by hand following some other bread instructions, and it turned out great! Went perfect with my chicken alfredo. My husband didn't even realize it was homemade until I told him, he thought I had bought it from the bakery! I'll be making this often!

Monkey Bread I

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2008
A wonderful treat! I had an extra tube of biscuit dough in the fridge, and was trying to decide what to make with it when I found this. I scaled the recipe down to five servings, but doubled the topping and poured it between layers. it all fit perfectly into my smaller loaf pan, which I think may have also helped it cook all the way through. My husband and I had to stop ourselves from eating the whole thing in one sitting!

Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2008
This bread was delicious! I had needed to make something for a St. Patty's Day potluck, and an attempt at cookies failed so I needed something quick and easy. This was perfect! Couldn't have been simpler, and the end result was tasty. It was best toasted with butter, but was still good on it's own. The only difference I made was to omit the raisins, since I kept hearing that real soda bread doesn't have them, and I also omitted the caraway seeds, since I read that a lot of people don't like them. I split the batter between two 7x3 inch pans since that's all I had. End result was delicious... it disappeared! >>>>> UPDATE: This was so good I had to make more, and kept it around as a snack bread. It was so tasty toasted with butter! I had promised the second loaf to my mom, and was so sad to let it go! lol

Soft Sugar Cookies IV

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2008
These didn't turn out well for me. I did as I read a couple other people did, which was using all butter rather than half shortening. Maybe that made a larger difference than I thought it would, because these turned out really like a flour-butter mixture. The first couple of cookies I forgot to flatten out, and they turned out slightly doughy in the center, which would have been ok but the flavor seemed sort of off. The rest I flattened, but didn't do much for the texture. My husband loves sugar cookies but didn't like these. Sorry, but I won't be making these again.

Easy French Dip Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2008
This was wonderful. Quick and easy, just like it says! I almost gave up on finding the consomme at the store, but I'm glad that I was able to find it. I added a bit of onion powder for flavor, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. My husband loved it! This is definitely a keeper.

Super Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2008
I was getting hungry around lunch time, when I remembered I had sausage thawing in the fridge, and biscuits in the freezer. Decided to make this, and it was great! Very simple and quick to make, and the end result is delicious. I used original sausage. The only change I made was to make it taste more like my mom's sausage gravy, by adding a dash of garlic powder and a dash of onion powder. Not necessary, but made it just like momma's! Great recipe!

Classic Waffles

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2008
These turned out quite yummy. I did add the extra cinnamon like some other reviewers suggested, and it added a nice dimension of flavor... they almost tasted like french toast. The texture was good too. My husband doesn't usually like it when I make waffles because they get hard really quickly, but these were just soft enough to enjoy. I'll be making these again!
